Comments Thread For: NSAC's Kizer on The Possible Penalties For Chavez Jr.

Keith Kizer, the executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, sat down with BoxingScene.com to discuss the recent situation with Mexican superstar Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32KOs).

Last week, it was confirmed that Chavez tested positive for marijuana. The test sample was taken immediately following his twelve round decision loss to Sergio Martinez at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The fight took place on September 15th.

This marked the second time that Chavez tested positive for a banned substance in Nevada. In 2009, he tested positive for Furosemide, a diuretic, after his win over Troy Rowland. The official result was changed to a no-decision. Chavez was fined $10,000 and suspended for seven months. [Click Here To Read More]

Six months sooooo he get s to smoke up for 6 mos. or will he be randomly tested during that time as well? I believe in a situation like this if you get busted you should be randomly tested like report somewhere once a month or something and have somebody take samples.

This is BS. I knew Martinez was too much for Jr, but the fraud purpetrated by the WBC in stripping Martinez and making Jr a champion in the first place is truely criminal. The games they play with thier "titles" and fees need penelties worse than Jr. And that Roach guy went along with the diuretics and the DUI, but claimed ignorance of any problem, till he heard rumors. From who? the Enquirer, the LAPD? There's never any problem as long as the cash is flowing. Jr was used and abused. I never hated him, Mushadeen, I hated he was getting used. The enemy in the ring is a saint compared to these.....

            MY BAD.

I had assumed that Chavez would get a year because of a second offense. I did not realize that NSAC considers different classes of drugs.

ALSO.... good to see that they consider a diuretic as a serious violation. Because many fans try to dismiss a diuretic as nothing.

So, Arum said that JCC, Jr smoked three weeks before the fight?

Was that the day of the Face/Off?

I may be wrong , but I understood Kizer to say that marjjana is a far less serious breach than the diuretic. He was penalised with 7 months suspension and $10,000 fine. And it seemd to me that he was implying that there would be no connective assumption in the sentencing

At the end the question asked seemed redundant, and on the whole it was another poor interview, with lots of duplication and windy explanations, going "'round and 'round the mulberry bush". They could have had all the details in about a third of the space used, and it would have made better reading.

Boxing people seem to "spread their wings, and inflate their cheass when it comes to talking and interviews. They love the feeling of being important I think.
