SOG is a winner...gotta give him that....but there's a few of us who feel as though he didn't see the REAL Chad Dawson that night....no need to go into details, dudes saw a zombie who looked like Chad....what I'm getting at, rematch SOG @ 175 because there's a few of us who are not convinced...Pascal need to be checked as well...imo, NOBODY beats Chad @ 175 just like nobody is getting over on SOG @ 168 imo....the Ward fight should've been a cw though....Chad said he could make 168...he wasn't lying...he made the weight, only thing is he can't fight and be affective there...still gotta give SOG his due though...he did his thing and put on a masterful performance
good job Scully, at one time during the fight you got ME motivated with the real talk you was giving Chad...for real

The man himself huh?? Well what's good Ice??
My little 2 cents. I'm more a fan of Ward than I am of Dawson, but with that said, the weight was definitely a factor. I do believe that Ward would have won at 175, but I'm almost certain Dawson wouldn't have been stopped.
Also I don't understand why some fans can't simply keep it real. I understand that we may have gone fore Ward, like myself. But I don't find any problem with calling it how it was, which was Dawson was drained. They say I knew excuse would come out. Will I went for Ward, but the effects of the weight couldn't be more obvious, considering Ward is not a ko artist.
I also believe Scully that you need to work on Dawson changing gears. He doesn't seem to do well when the fight isn't going his way, he gets lethargic in there. Just my 2 cents, stay safe brother.

To be honest I often take the observations of fans into account...often times people who are big fans of boxing and know what they are looking at see things for what they are even more so than people who are deep into the game and may over analyze things sometimes...so I do appreciate your observation AND see reality in it, too...

Hey John, sorry about Chad coming up short against Ward. Chad is still a great fighter and although I've never been a fan exactly, I've always enjoyed watching him fight, because I like pure boxers. But, Ward is a different animal, and he's something very special, I've known that for a long time. I do have a few questions for you if you don't mind, I'd really appreciate it if you could tell me your viewpoints and your side of things.
1. I'm still really confused here to this day about the whole weight "drain" thing. And, I have a few reasons to explain why I'm still lost on the matter. Leading up to the fight, even a week or two before fight night, Chad, Chad's nutritionist, and....Even you, John, seemed VERY sure, and VERY confident in the fact Chad was A-okay with the weight. Even to the point where every time Chad was asked about it, he actually got frustrated, and would more or less say there's no reason to worry, the weight is good etc.
2. Chad made weight RIGHT on the money, and while I ain't no trainer or nutritionist, but to me, and to most others when seeing the weigh in, thought Chad looked lean, not too dry, not gaunt, he didn't overshoot the mark and drain himself, or at least it sure as hell didn't seem that way whatsoever. He looked good, strong and confident, not only at the weigh in, but in the entire pre fight build up, a confidence that was so noticeable it was the kind of "I know and/or see something no one else does" kind of confidence not only with Chad, but with you as well. You all seemed sure of yourselves and ready to go and confident. From what I saw, from the pre fight build up, all the way up until when the bell sounded to end the 3rd round after Chad had been hurt and dropped, and everyone went from confident and relaxed, to panicked.
So, I guess what I'm trying to get out here is, when did the weight become a known issue? Because like I said, there were absolutely no signs of problems with the weight physically on Chad's part before the fight, and the rest of his team was fine as well. I'm just really confused here when it comes to this whole weight debacle.
But, would you say that you guys ALSO underestimated Ward just a bit, John? Because, it seemed like you and Chad both before the fight, given what you said about Ward, you guys seemed to have the idea that Ward really had no outside game, and was more of just a purely inside/in-close kind of fighter who didn't have anything "special" about him. See, that's the thing about Ward. He's deceptively highly skilled on the outside, but in a non-conventional manner, whereas Chad is a conventional "behind the jab" kind of boxer. And, given what I saw in the fight, weight issues or no weight issues, I could clearly tell that Chad was stunned by how Ward was able to take his jab away, and shoot jabs of his own in return accurately. Chad looked mentally stunned by this, and I believe Ward's mastery at controlling range and distance and along with Ward's very good spacial awareness threw Chad off tremendously. I got the impression that Chad and you thought that you were going to have a huge edge on the outside, and when Chad realized this wasn't the case, and Ward was able to get over Chad's lead hand with his own jab and land accurately and consistently, it seemed to me that Chad just looked lost. I mean, hey, I'm no trainer, just an observant boxing fan that couldn't help but notice these subtleties unfolding in the fight, and these are just my opinions..
So, I guess my final question would be, was Ward better then what you thought he was? Just as good as you thought? Different then what you thought? A little bit of everything? Haha. Sorry but this (excruciatingly) long post, just been itching to ask you these sort of questions. Thanks John. Hope you find the time to get back to me. And, please, don't take any offense to any of my questions, I'm really asking out of sheer curiosity due to the fact that I'm intrigued by this whole thing.
