  • The level of b1tchassness that comes from team Pac is ridiculous

    • What scares me is Team Pac not even confident enough to actually take the fight at 154 when they knew Cotto reject their offer of 150, That scares me seriously... It makes his win over Cotto at 145 looks less convincing to people that knows and follows boxing.

      • you know what cracks me up? is how the fanboys always try to derail a thread. Manny fears Cotto @ 154!

        • Manny Pacquiao, the king of ***** ass catchweights. I can't believe the commissions even allow this crap. Why even have weight classes if fighters dont have to by the official weights? Boxing is turning into a big joke.

so what? Pacquiao was the one calling the shots in the Cotto fight, it was a career high payday for him and he took the fight at a catchweight. Cotto is a dumbass for trying to imply he was drained and not accepting his loss like a man.

            • Cotto chose to play the weight game when he demanded a catchweight with Margarito. I dont care it if was 151, 152 or it was just to play with Margs head. He still tried to make a fight lower that 154. Thats how I see it. Im a big fan of his but when it comes to weight demands, he shouldn't be talking nor complaining about it.

              • I don't remember Cotto saying anywhere that he was drained. He is just saying that he was pushed around once, and he won't let it happen again. For those that don't know, Arum pushed him to accept a fight with Pacquiao at 142lbs. Cotto refused but accepted 145lbs, but on the condition his title wouldn't be on the line. Once signed, the WBO installed Pacquiao as their mandatory challenger so Cotto was "snookered". Fight, or get stripped.

Davis40 refused so maybe Cuauhtli will step up.

If Pacquiao is a greater fighter, and he beats Cotto at any weight, why request another catchweight?

Since you're a big fan of his, then you would realise he wasn't just "Talking or complaining" about it, He had to put his own word out since Arum is talking ***** again... He said he did it before and wouldn't do it again no complaining here.

                  • Cotto complaining about taking the fight at 145 is definitely his fault and Bob Arum's however he took the fight and he was making 146 in his last few fights before that.. like against Clottey & Judah. However making 154 Cotto has looked strong.. so maybe in general making 154 he was draining himself... so maybe a fight at 154 will be different & manny is trying to drain him a little. Pacquiao is notorious for that.

Catchweights are as old as boxing. They are what you do to make fights between bigger fighters and smaller fighters. Let's look at some of the "classless" boxers that have resorted to "catchweights" in fights:

Julio Cesar Chavez v. Pernell Whitaker--Chavez insisted on 145 and got it.
Sugar Ray Leonard v. Danny Lalonde--Leonard insisted on 167 for Lalonde's 175 lb belt (really?)
Roy Jones Jr. v. Tito Trinidad--Tito insisted on 170 lbs for this and got it.
Oscar De La Hoya v. Bernard Hopkins--158 lbs at De La Hoya's insistence
Henry Armstrong v. Lew Jenkins--140 (7 under the welterweight limit) at Jenkins' insistence.

I could go on and on. Those are all hall of fame boxers insisting on catchweights in big fights. This isn't unusual; catchweights are a part of boxing. In fact, some could criticize fighters for not insisting on them. I, for one, think Dawson made a serious mistake in dropping to 168 to fight Ward rather than insisting on a catchweight. Not that he'd have won, but 168 was too light for him.
