These sanctioning bodies need to create catchweight belts so when Pacquiao wants to weight drain fighters he can get a belt that suits him so the real fighters can get real belts.

But why ask for a catch weight if weight doesn't matter? If Pac beat him to a pulp why not let the guy come anywhere from 154 and under so they won't be any excuses.

What i want to know is why Cotto picked Trout...Ok if you don't want to fight Manny at a catchweight, but Trout? That isn't a big fight at all, no casuals know Trout and this fight will do garbage numbers.

Cotto should just be going to big money and big name fighters, this is the last part of his career. Should only be fighting guys like Canelo, Martinez, Floyd and Pac rematches (even though hardcores don't want to see them again) .. and that's about it ... maybe someone with a decent name behind him too like Kirkland or Golovkin (but triple G would not be a smart move lol)

Trout is a Top 10 LMW, and every other notable guy was hesitating to fight him. Therefore, Cotto jumped at the opportunity. Trout is a prime undefeated titlist who's still unproven. Cotto wants that belt and that 0. He could fight Canelo and do big PPV #'s, but Canelo gets enough attention as it is. He's doing the sport a favor by giving a relatively unknown fighter a chance in the spotlight. Plus, the fight is on Showtime so the fans win.

there's no doubt the catchweight king and his team of snake oil salesmen are a bunch of crooks behind the scenes but didn't this maricone try to fight margarito at 150 too?

Then why ask for a catchweight? I believe this question has been asked often, answered little.

He didn't, he's not interested in fighting above 147 again. 147 is not a catchweight, right? Cotto goaded him into offering 150, then changed his mind after they offered him that:

WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto is counting the numbers on the check. Puerto Rico's biggest star told Raul Alzaga that his final decision, regarding his next opponent, will be determined by money. Cotto and members of his team are evaluating two possible scenarios - a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, or a rematch with Manny Pacquiao on June 9th - also in Las Vegas.
