This is one of the few times I actually would like to see a catch weight fight. I think these are the 2 best pound for pound fighters in the sport right now (I'm not including Floyd or Pac at this point because neither are real fighters anymore). The weight just doesn't work well for either though. I don't think Ward can make 60, and I don't think Martinez can handle 68. Make the fight at 64. My big problem with Pac's catch weight fights were that he was only doing it to try to gain advantages. This is one where both concede and would be relatively fair to both guys. I don't think it happens, but I'd love to see it.

Martinez should stay at 160, forget about the Cotto's and Mayweather's of the world and make his place as the middleweight champion. He no longer has to chase after fights. He is now one of the go to men. He can make lots of history and money by staying put.
Martinez is getting older, seemingly only has a couple years left, and wants to make his mark on boxing/cash in. In this regard, there isnt much for him at 160. He can stay at 160, have a couple fights and retire, and be forgotten soom enough. Or he can fight cotto/mayweather, quite possibly beat them, and become legendary, aswell as have a much much much fatter bank account. (Not saying a win over cotto makes you legendary, but it puts you in the ballpark/on the map)

If i had to guess, id say that is martinez' mindset.

This myth has been debunked already. He was 176 lbs 30 days before the fight. Compare that to Canelo who was 167 lbs 30 days before his fight. Martinez is a regular sized middleweight.

In terms of being in the ring together, pretty sure chavez is/was bigger than ward. Would rather see martinez fight money or cotto tho.
If I remember well, Ward did talk about a possible fight at 164 or 165 but Dibella and Lewkovicz killed that shit real quick.

Didn't he fight a cruiser on Sat? Lol Let Chavez been at smw Martinez would of had no problem with that! C'mon let's keep it a c-note!
Yeah ironically Chavez Jr is bigger than Ward.

          d.
          Im cool with this fight never happening, but wih that said i wish fighter took a different approach to answering said questions. For instance;

          Q: would you fight martinez

AW: ill fight whoevers put in front of me.

^simple answer, nothing more needs to be said, and cant be construed as ducking/avoiding/being a primaddona or whatever.

            ^^^ This.

I think Martinez's style would be compromised at a higher weight. It's not that he can't physically make it, it's that his game plan would probably have to be altered in a way that might be too drastic at this point in his (or any fighter's) career.

On the flip side, I think Ward's style would be fine at a lower weight (but perhaps not all the way down to 160). 164 is the most reasonable idea, but I still don't see it happening.

Please tell us Trinidad's record above 160. Hell, tell us who Tito beat at 160 and above.

Please also list the ATG's that Leonard fought at LHW...and what that fight weight was.
Sugar Ray fought the ATG Donnie Lelonde at light heavy or was it at Super middle? No, I am sure it was light heavy. No, maybe it was at super middle? Or was it both at the same time? I am so confused.

He started at 147, spent most of his career at 154 and da guy was stuffing his face wit tbone steaks a week away from dis fight just to maintain da weight. Da guy is 2 divisions north of where he began, I tinks it's about time for otha people to start making some sacrifices if dey wants to fight him.

He is only dat heavy because of his muscle mass. Compare him to other boxers, he is far more muscular den dey are because the muscle mass is the only way he can make da weight while he is in shape. He has a small frame for a middleweight. That's why all these otha guys are talla den he is and look thin compared to him, he doesn't have wide shoulders and he is short.

At 168, he would look like dat Jeff Lacy guy and be slow as molasses because of da extra 10 pounds of muscle he would have to pack on to not be a tub of lard in da ring.

Its okay for Martinez to fight a Cruiserweight because he was a s#ityy cruiserweight and not Andre Ward the best P4P fighter in the world.

why not fight at a catchweight ?

Chad Dawson moved down 7 pounds to fight Ward at 168, so why can't Ward move down4 pounds and fight MArtinez at a catchweight of 164 ?
