  • Is RJJ overrated?

The former 4 division world title belt holder and ex undisputed light heavy weight champion has many accolades in the ring but I think we can all agree he went on for too long. Given his current state and his severe lack of boxing fundamentals being exposed have people overrated Roy Jones jr?

His natural athleticism made him virtually unbeatable but should the fact he was a great athlete earn him a place amongst the greatest fighters?

I have a feeling history will be less kind to him than those of us that followed his prime.

    I don't think he's overrated.

Roy was an exceptional athlete and though he may have not been fundamentally disciplined like a Floyd Mayweather or Willie Pep, it doesn't take away from how dominant and effective he was, which at the end of the day is what counts in the ring.

History will remember him as one of the best fighters in history. Many fighters before him went on a down slope towards the end of their careers, yet we acknowledge their overall body of work which is how it should be viewed. Hell, guys like Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali went on longer than they probably should've, but I don't see many people ignoring their accolades and focusing on their losses in the twilight / end of their careers.

One of the most gifted fighters that will ever live. He also fought a lot of cab drivers. He won't be remembered for being as great as he could have been. Don't get me wrong, Hopkins and Big James are great wins. But he missed other opportunities when in his prime.
