To be fair, chavez wasn't at 40%. he was much higher than that. and he did box, for almost the entire fight. so i think chavez sr is making excuses.

chavez did box, he just didn't know how to box martinez. he would approach, get hit, then see martinez moving towards the other side of the ring. repeat ad nauseam for chavez.

he was a young man lost, left to box the air.

Jr tries to overwhelm his opponents by force but can't if the guy hit & moves . Perfect game plan by Sergio, now they want a rematch so Jr can train in the gym. The guy is free to give an interview. That's how it works. He may even have been telling the truth about Julio not training properly. You morons need to understand that they aren't chasing the press to talk. Then slap yourselves. Hard.

Pretty silly to say that Sergio can lose easily to Julio. Besides, it appears Sergio was somewhat crippled. Sergio is a better fighter. Deal.

We all got to think about it, Sr. did drugs, drink so Jr. just following in his footprint. The diffrence in them two is Sr. trained hard at the gym, Jr. drinking and training at home so he won't get pull over by the police.

Agree with Chavez Sr.'s statements, problem is I dont think Jr. has it in him mentally.Clarification* I dont think he wants it bad enough!. Here you see Martinez working his ass off knowing damn well that he has a young, strong, aggressive fighter in Chavez and he still beat him. I think Chavez has some potential but for one he is slow on his feet, he doesn't jab, he doesn'nt move his head, and he followed Martinez around. On top of all of that he gets hit ALOT!. I really dont think he is going to be in the sport too long. Only so far that chin of his can take him and his body is growing and will end up fighting the big boys at 168 next!

this is just a learning experience for chavez jr. he should be able to fully comprehend what he did wrong and fix his mistakes. only reason i'd be down to see a rematch is to see martinez get paid. otherwise, i suggest chavez jr moves up. he can have good fights at 168 with guys like pavlik, abraham, and froch. become a multi divisional champ and stuff.

It's not that he didn't want to, it's that he simply couldn't for most of the fight. In the time it takes Jr. to sit and throw, Martinez has hit him 3-4 times.

I also think that Chavez DID try to unleash, the times he had Martinez on the ropes. Martinez won the majority of those exchanges, showing that he can fight on the inside.

Bingo. Sometimes the best defense is great offense, and that is exactly how Sergio operated. Cut him up bad, because he was too fast and Jr. couldn't get off without getting a barrage in return.

Well the loss should humble him, and teach him to be more serious about his craft.

One thing I haven't seen anyone say thus far was about the first round...Although he lost it, I thought Junior was doing good by continuing to circle to Martinez's right, customary stuff against a southpaw, but I thought their game plan would be to walk Martinez into right hands, and then Freddie mentioned something to Julio about it in the corner thereafter (which btw, smh at that duo and their lack of communication). But as soon as the 2nd round began it looked like Julio just abandoned that very rudimentary tactic and opted to chase a guy that not only moves beautifully but punches hard and fast from many angles. I don't know what happened so soon to discourage him from doing it, I think he should've stuck to that for a little longer, walking in straight lines against a guy of Martinez's caliber will set you up to get picked apart. Now I understand that's not really Julio's style, and I agree, I just found it odd that he came out in the first round with what looked like a dedicated approach (he never let up from doing it so it didn't look like he was just feeling out, on top of that...) and then when Freddie told him he's doing the right thing, he comes out and just starts walking straight. ??? Don't get me wrong though, lol, Martinez would've still figured it out, whatever it would be and have beaten Chavez. I'm just speculating.

Aside from a hectic 12th round, an immediate rematch doesn't look very warranted right now (not that I would really mind it, lol). Julio never adapted. And I find it funny how in their face-off (I think it was the face-off) Julio says, 'you only have a straight left to the body,' yet he continues to eat that shot throughout the night. I thought that punch was the key factor in slowing Junior and really setting up the win. Terrific performance from Martinez, did everything he needed to do.

Lately when certain fighters loose(especially those trained by Roach)they put the blame on training camp & don't give the winning fighter any credit!!They keep on trying to compare that fight with Chavez Sr's win over Taylor, but there's NO comparison cause in the Chavez/Taylor fight, even thou Chavez was being out landed in every round, he was still landing hard shots on Taylor in every round, something that didn't happen on his son's fight against Martinez..I saw the fight last Saturday & I've seen both fighters fight plenty of times before that & Saturday night I DIDN'T see any difference in the way Chavez Jr fought or the way Martinez fought..The ONLY difference was that for the 1st time in Chavez Jr's ENTIRE CAREER he fought a REAL TOP OF THE LINE FIGHTER & got Schooled & pounded for the 1st 11 rounds & the reason he wasn't really throwing was because no other fighter has hit him the way Martinez was & in the last round C Jr caught the way smaller(in height & more or less by 20lbs) Martinez with a good shot & rocked him & note that Martinez also had a BROKEN left hand(since the 4th) & had TORN LIGAMENTS on his right knee(from the knock down) & Martinez got up & still traded with C Jr & he still couldn't stop Martinez!! They don't want to admit that C Jr got blown out & are looking for an unworthy rematch..In a rematch Martinez will give him a worst beating & will probably KO C jr!!

Good post. I feel very strongly about the first sentence too. That really is getting old. It is called poor sportsmanship, plain and simple.
