Martinez the great, will end up making this kind go blind. We don't want that to happen now do we?

Just say no to the rematch. **** fight. The right man won 11 and half rounds! Nothing more to see.
In another thread, I said if Sergio threw more to the head than to the body, Chavez would've needed a "Margarito-type surgery", and Ducketts got on my ass about it lol. I still don't understand how that's a hyperbole, even Roach was gonna stop the fight because he could see that the damage was getting worse.

I'd watch and pay for a ticket again, but not right now. Sergio deserves to continue on his own path now if he can and JR's body will need a long layoff. A rematch may do good business but there are a few other fights that might make Sergio slightly more money and his luster if he won. Going into MSG against Cotto's seems like it would be great money and have a similar big fight atmosphere I'd think. The Trout fight will be dangerous and depending on if and how Cotto wins, he might like what a Cotto-Martinez fight would mean for him. I doubt Sergio would have a problem going back to NY to fight if necessary.

          back to Sergio-JR:

After seeing the fight in person I say that you can't lose with this matchup because watching Martinez do his thing is incredible and I think some underestimate the amount of people across the spectrum who will pay to watch to watch him work against Chavez. JR gave what he had and even if he fully heals and makes improvements, Sergio's style is still going to inherently bother him for the majority of rounds. Sergio always responds when someone gets off on him so it's not like it's simply a matter of JR "turning it up" earlier. That's part of it, but the lack of a jab and not being able to cut the ring off more consistently is important because it's what prevents Serg from getting off first. Martinez's output was ridiculous and I was in the cheapseats. I expected JR to plan to gradually get lower than he did and hide more of his body from left to the body but he was stood up all night. JR couldn't figure out a way to get off and touch the body as often as a style like his demands to get late KO's, but still almost pulled out something dramatic so Id still have interest but Id like for sergio to try for another big fight first.

The two brought out all types of fans that I don't always experience at big fights, educated fans of fighters, but boxing fans first. Obviously there were strictly partisan fans there as well, so they were prob a bit mad, but it felt like ppl got what they came for. great boxing atmosphere either way

            Rematch

Of course I wanna see the mayweather and Martinez fight. If they go with the rematch then let's do it in LA at staples center. I know it will do bigger than margarito and Mosley when they broke the record!! Sergio fighting out of Oxnard and the huge Mexican population in it LA, I think it will be great.

Maybe I am old and long for the good old days, but would it not have been interesting if it would have been a 15 round fight ? Just reminiscing of the real championship rounds 13, 14, 15th round .

A rematch would be more entertaning if Chavez lets his hands go early. Martinez would probably stop him this time.

I long for the 15-round fights myself - just like I long for the original 8 weight classes (except cruiser, that was needed) and 3 sanctioning bodies......anyway, I digress. Rounds 13-15 were definitely the championship rounds.

Agree, no need for rematch. Chavez should move up a weight
