Ray Leonard : started the 80s champ, ended the 80s champ. Five time world champ in 5 different weight classes (first fighter to ever achieve that in the history of the sport). Beat Tommy Hearns, hall of famer, Roberto Duran, Hall of famer, Wilfred Benitez, hall of famer, Marvin Hagler, Hall of famer in the upset of the decades, who was undefeated in years, undisputed middleweight champ and p4p one of the greatest. He's the miracle man, an increbly popular figure in America.

Mike Tyson : Won the HW crown at an early age with a brutal knockout. Destroyed a buffed hall of famer light heavyweight in 1988. KOed a 39y old hall of famer in Larry Holmes.

Objectively, Leonard acomplished incredibly more than Tyson. If you think Tyson is the fighter of the 80s, you're a poor fanboy.

I voted Tyson because when i was growing up he epitomized the sport of boxing.

Leonard was the better boxer, he is vastly more skilled, he fought better oppostion and accomplished more.

But the FIGHTER of the 80's, not necessarily the best fighter or best boxer. But face of boxing in the 80's for me was Tyson.

No one had seen anything like that for a long time in the heavyweight division, and we're all praying for it now.

It has to be Leonard. Tyson didn't even start as a professional until 85... Leanord had a belt at 80 and continued to win throughout the 80's. If you were asking the later half of the decade, then it'd go to Tyson.

Don't make me laugh, Leonard won against Hagler fair and square. It's the perfect exemple of the victory of a corner. Angelo Dundee outsmarted the Petronellis. Leonard lost his first fight vs Duran in a perfect fight style for Duran and he barely lost it. Than come back and humiliate him. His draw vs Hearns, 2nd fight was a gift yes, but he did won against him in both men's prime. Leonard acheived incredibly more than Tyson ever did. Tyson was the youngest HW champ THATS ALL. The only fighters he fought were buffed up lower class fighters and passed their prime boxers. Leonard has countless achievement, alot of which had never been done in boxing history.

You pick Tyson ; You got no objectivity.

So what, Tyson was known at 19? Leonard too was known at the young stage of his career with his incredible performance and his epic win over Andres Aldama in Montreal. Tyson didn't even made the olympic team...

You may not like Leonard but he IS the best boxer of the 80s.

duran underachieved, holmes faded, leonard was WAY overhyped, tyson was only in the 80s for 5 years, pryor didnt do much, likewise for arguello.

but id have to say that tyson made the biggest impact.

by the way: **** SUGAR GAY LEONARD.
