Ali phoned Dundee up one day in Feb of 1957 while Angelo & Willie Pastrano were staying in a Louisville hotel room (Pastrano was fighting John Holman at that time). Ali & his brother requested a short meeting, which Dundee granted with Pastrano's urging and the rest as they say, was history.

are you sure? i thought one day in 1958 clay went to the gym dundee was in and introduced himself. dundee was training willie pastrano at the time. and clay asked dundee if he could spar a few rounds with willie. dundee refused cause he figured clay would be badly hurt very quickly cause clay was 17 and pastrano was champion. but clay kept asking and asking and making noise and bothering dundee for minutes, so dundee finally gave him the chance, just to shut him up. as soon as it started clay quickly pumped jabs and leads into pastrano's face and within a couple of minutes cut him up very badly. dundee stopped it, and he said, "When you turn pro, give me a call!"

at least that's how i know it.
