Was it the punch or the weight?

I say both. Dawson might have been alright dropping the weight against a lesser opponent but against one of the better fighters in the world he wasn't.

History told me that dropping weight was going to work against Dawson but when he made weight seemingly comfortably I had hope he would make a fight of it. But I should have known better.

He stood still with his hands up and got punched in the face. That was it.

Like Dawson, he had no punch output, speed or power.
he fought harder than chad did!

Fight looks almost the same at 175, Ward quite simply exploited all of Dawsons weaknesses.
I've seen him not throwing also, but I've never seen him look slow with his hands and feet, heavy legged and completely void of energy. He was merely plodding back and forward in lines, no quick lateral movement.

I thought it was shaping to be a good fight and enjoyed the first 3 rounds which saw some good exchanges and a lot of great footwork but from that point on it was a world class fighter against a tired shell.

He looked plenty energetic and mobile before he got hammered in the 3rd, his legs never recovered from that hook... Which is a normal thing to have happen.

So you assume that Ward wouldnot have gotten stronger if the fight had been 175? 168 /175 Ward owns Dawsons butt

It was a good fight early until Ward landed that left hook. Then it was all downhill for Chad.

I think it is a bit of both. The shot that put him on the canvas would drop most but at the same time draining weight would have inhibited his recovery it is also possible that it diminished his reaction.
