the thing about you guys is, how can you say floyd has never fought anybody like a roy jones jr but then automatically say roy would kill him?

roy has never fought anybody like a floyd mayweather jr either---toney and hopkins are nowhere near the fighter of floyd mayweather jr....toney's defense is similar in the shoulder roll area, but his footwork and balance is nowhere near floyd and neither is hopkins---

i've always said floyd would beat roy at 154 in terms of skill because of floyd's boxing mind and roy's boxing mind is nowhere near floyd's---we're talking about a guy much bigger than floyd also--that plays a role of course but p4p skillwise, roy loses to floyd no matter who likes it...
Toney didn't have great foot work but excellent balance he was always able to come back with counter shots from odd angles and in combination with power.

Saying that roys mind isn't what Floyd is makes no sense he lays traps as well as Floyd feints just as good and could put you in position for any punch. Roy's mind set fits his ability if he had the same ability hed beat anyone his mind sees it but his body won't do it.

Jones could not make 154 . he never fought a world class opponent under middleweight , your envisioning the MW and up version would be that at 154 , not so ! not against another atg great like himself .

If you were to truly equal the size youve got a very competitive technical fight and either could win .

Jones' movement and punch angles were amazing.

and lol @ the post saying Floyd has never lost so he'd win. Roy was practically undefeated in his first 50 fights. The only loss was a DQ that was bs. Everytime he was called into the ring, Buffer always highlighted "his only loss coming from a controversial disqualification, later avenged by first round KO". To me, that is one amazing record considering his achievements at 154, 160, 175 and 200, then making history yet again by dropping down to 175 again to regain the title.

Not like an undefeated record matters in this instance. I see Roy dominating this fight.

Many poeple don't give Roy Jones full credit. They believe, and you hear it all the time, even from experienced boxing writers, that he depended on his athleticism. That's only true in part. He had a trememdous boxing IQ the equal of the best anywhere. What do you think was driving his skills but his boxing IQ and the speed at which he could adjust to anyone. It was all like a big game to him.

For 15 years he was at the top or near the top of the lb4lb table, and if we don't count that DQ farce with Montell Griffin whom he was in the middle of KOing, he was 49-0, hardly losing more than a single handful of rounds total. footwork

Well, to get to the topic, the best Mayweather would have no chance at all, with Jones, who could get off a 5 punch combo whilst Mayweather was blinking his eye, and with his terrific footwork wouldn't be anywhere around for Mayweather to catch him. He could shoulder roll and eye roll and neck roll and it would be the same as if he just rolled over and laid down.

Unless Jones wanted to let him into the fight, which Jones could end at any time he wanted. Depended on how much trash Mayweather talked beforehand.

That Jones was in stratosphere compared to any other fighter. I recall what he did to Toney who had a huge reputation, and deserved it. He wasn't even seriously trying in that fight.

Floyd wouldn't be able to hurt Roy and really that is all that needs to be said.

I consider Floyd the best in the world right now, or close to it. With that said, I still see ZERO chance that he could beat Roy. Roy is just too big, has faster hands, more power, and Roy was a thinker in there too, great ring IQ.

Not a chance Floyd wins, Floyd would look horrible and get destroyed, probably KO'd fairly early.

Some of you guys seem to think that a "shoulder roll" is the be all and end all of defensive fighting. get it it to your heads that it was a once a very common ploy, but only one of many, and it seems to me that a majority of defensive fighters used it, along with much else. It wasn't singled out because it was nothing special. Just because todays fighters have forgotten or never knew the finer points of the sport as used by the past fighters doesn't make it unique. It generally partically blocks a punch and takes the sting off it, leaving both hands free for counter-punching.
