Calzaghe talks Roy Jones back in 99

Yea am much as I like Joe C he made it clear he never wanted RJJ when he was in his prime, He gladly stayed at home until it was safe to take the challenge and make a lot of money abroad with BHop and RJJ, I alway thought Joe C would beat a prime RJJ but if the fighter himself doesn't really believe in himself then who am I to believe in him.

No offense, but i don't see any way in the world Joe would even come close to beating Jones in his prime. Jones would literally shut down any attempt he would try. And this is coming from someone who criticizes Jones for not taking more high profile fights in those days so I'm no where near a Jones hugger. He was just simply too good for any version of Calzaghe.

I cut and pasted some of the quotes that were attributed to Calzaghe and I Googled them. And the only thing that popped up was the same article that is linked in this thread. So, I have to ask who wrote it and why can it only be found on one site? Are we suppose to believe it just because someone found it on the web with no real sources? I also just read online that dinosaurs were roaming the Earth only six thousand years ago. Should I believe that as well?

calzaghe is top 30 atg. everyone knows hopkins and roy ducked a prime calzaghe. hopkins said in 2002 that he never wanted any part of calzaghe because he knew he would get dominated

that's a silly statement weebler. Yeah calzaghe didn't lose to anyone cuz his resume is straight garbage. If Calzaghe fought the same kind of fights as hopkins did he would have lost too. I reckon if Joe fought into his 40's he would have lost as well. Besides Roy Jones, all of Hopkins losses come at the age of 40+. Taylor, Calzaghe & Dawson- 40, 43 & 47.

Likewise if Hopkins fought Joe type opponents and retired at 37 I'm sure he would have been undefeated as well.

If you read the post properly the comparison was between the resumes of Calzaghe and Taylor, hence my saying Calzaghe beat everyone else while Taylor lost brutally.

I wasn't comparing Hopkins and Calzaghe, we already saw that comparison in the ring in '07.

i'm not going down the triangle route. i'm going down the style route. bute fights completely square just like calzaghe and he couldn't avoid froch's shots because of it. calzaghe might have a better chin than bute but he has even worse defense.

There's no point in you referencing my logic when you deliberately mis-interpret it.

Taylor fought Hopkins in his own country and lost to other fighters brutally, Calzaghe didn't lose to others he beat everyone else: Eubank, Reid, Mitchell, Lacy, Bika, Kessler, Hopkins, Jones...and he fought B-Hop 8,000 miles from home.

Just to say I don't think Calzaghe has the strongest resume either but it's respectable and certainly not worthy of all the vitriol aimed by daggum and one or two others.

Ok so you say he fought B-Hop 8,000 miles from home like that's some big deal but think nothing of the fact that Hopkins was 46 years old or of how utterly shot Roy Jones was? Then you mention Reid, Mitchell, Lacy, Bika, like they were some great opponents? Oh yeah you have no bias at all

taylor fought a better version of hopkins than calzaghe twice, prime winky, prime pavlik twice, prime abraham, and prime froch. calzaghe fought prime lacy(bum) and prime kessler and a whole load of tomato cans. you should give credit to taylor for being a fighter and taking risks unlike calzaghe. yeah he lost most of the time but at least he fought. you don't get credit for avoidance.
