In reference to the Ray robinson thread, I think that monzon looks like a drunken idiot compared to the Robinson clips I have seen.

Monzon would get brutalized within 6 rounds facing prime Roy jones Jr at middelweight, and I am dead serious.

I rate Monzon as one of the three best middleweights of all time together with Hopkins and Hagler. Robinson was a great welterweight but he was not a full sized middleweight and he lost at middleweight to fighters that were not as good as my top three. Marcel Cerdan and Tony Zale were very good also. Just my opinion.

Monzon had a style that may not have looked pretty but it was very effective. I remember thinking certain fighters might beat him until they fought and he beat the hell out of them. He was very rugged. He could punch and take a punch. He had great stamina and a high work rate that wore fighters down.

Very tough to judge guys from pre-ppv days since the sport has changed so much...

PPV has brought in so much money that guys dont need to be as active as they once were.
