Comments Thread For: Dawson Not Bothered By 3-1 Odds in Favor of Ward

Handicappers have made Andre Ward about a 3-1 favorite over Chad Dawson, despite Dawson’s impressive resume.

    Dawson doesn’t mind.

“I don’t take offense to [the odds] at all,” Dawson recently stated to promote their 12-round fight Sept. 8 in Oakland, Calif. “All I can say is that they’re making the wrong bet. My training camp has been great. I’m not worried about being the underdog. I’ve never been in this position before. Maybe it’s about time I am in that position. It’s going to give me fuel and it’s going to make me a better fighter.”

The 30-year-old Dawson (31-1, 17 KOs, 2 NC) is a significant underdog largely because the WBC light heavyweight champion has moved down to 168 pounds to fight for Ward’s WBA and WBC super middleweight titles and because he’ll travel to Ward’s backyard. The skilled southpaw from New Haven, Conn., will challenge the 28-year-old Ward (25-0, 13 KOs) at Oracle Arena, approximately a 20-minute drive from Ward’s hometown of Hayward, Calif. If this fight were at 175 the odds would be alot closer.

Dawson did make Hopkins look bad.

Is Ward that good? Froch will say yes and so will kessler. Is Dawson capable of fighting smart and adjusting to a running champion for 12 rounds? Ward on a decision as Dawson cries about being robbed. rematch in Vegas. Dawson wins on points.

I can't pick a winner in this fight cause its that close to me but with odds like that I would love to bet on Dawson. I remember they Tarver a 3-1 favorite over B-Hop before their fight. LLS we all saw what happened that night. Not saying it will happen that way again but 3-1 for Ward is a little crazy. Vegas must be trying to get some money flowing opening with a line like that.

I think the main reason the odds are quite far apart is because its in Wards hometown.

I know people will be like ''well Wards never needed the judges before'' but lets rewind to the Sakio Bika fight where the judges had it (120-108, 118-110 x2)
That was a competitive fight, far from the shout-out the judges had it.

For what its worth I do think Dawson has a chance, upon watching Ward (painfully) I don't think he is all that myself, I just can't see Dawson getting a fair shake.

This fight reminds me of the RJJ vs Tarver 1&2. I know most would say RJJ was not the same after his heavyweight run, in which that may be the case. Nevertheless Tarver whole career was based on dethroning RJJ, which Tarver said over and over!! Tarver always felt he was RJJ's kryptonite. Dawson has always been obsessed with Hopkins and Ward, its stated ans a proven fact, If its a fighter who can dethrone Ward its an athletic boxer! I'm a fan of both guys, so I'm not bias. This fight should definitely be closer with the odds, but the odds maker don't look a the whole picture. They're basing they're perspective off hoping Dawson doesn't make weight or is he going to be weight drained. Look at every prediction it's Dawson is going to be weight drained. Now what happens if he's comfortable @ the weight? Game on!! Please let's stop comparing ward to pascal. Pascal is an animal and ridiculously strong, a front runner for about 5 rounds, pascal gives everyone tough fights, just ask Froch and Bhop! Don't take my word, just ask BHOP. Pascal the only guy ever, I mean ever to hurt Bhop badly. And the 2nd guy to drop Bhop next to Serguda Mercada early on Bhop's career. Oh and Green, Bika, Miranda are no Dawson, as well as Tarver, Johnson, Ademak, and BHop is no Ward!

i didn't pull the trigger on the garcia / khan fight, a 6-1 payout.

i just see this one as a closer fight than those 3-1's.
