  • Comments Thread For: Kirkland Legal Update: Managerial Battle Gets Ugly

The legal battle involving junior middleweight James Kirkland is getting ugly. As previously reported, there are separate ongoing lawsuits, filed in Los Angeles and Texas, pertaining to the managerial and promotional contracts of Kirkland.

In Los Angeles federal court, Kirkland alleges that Golden Boy Promotions illegally extended his contracts beyond sports commission limits. Kirkland is also looking to break his managerial agreements with Cameron Dunkin and Michael Miller.

lol, it looks like kirkland's team came out swinging. i wouldnt bet against them on this one. copy and paste jobs are the bane of many a contract. not sure how this helps kirkland in the long run tho. i dunno whos in his ear, but without his team he has nothing.

"The promoter agreement further states if Kirkland wins a major world title, the promoter agreement shall be extended for the term of 5 additional bouts and if Kirkland extends any media contract, the promoter agreement shall be extended for the like period."
This does not seem like a fair clause to me. I know it must be frustrating for a promoter to invest in a prospect, guide him perfectly and then have him leave you because someone else offered him a bit more cash or a bigger fight. But this kind of deal is too much.
