Sugar Ray Leonard could never ever beat a healthy well trained Duran in his prime. Even after the so called Duran Fiasco, Leonard would never give Duran a rematch 9 years (Who is the quitter now?). Leonard was scared of Duran, and rightfully so. Anyone who wants to say that Duran is a quitter or hang their heads on the no mas incident is incredibly naive.
By no means was he the greatest lightweight of all time, but He's sure as hell up there.

Originally posted by Gavilan1People always talk about the NO MAS fight. What they don't talk about is how in the first fight when Duran beat Leonard up from post to post. Duran did not prepare himself for the second one, but the media in the USA seems to forget that. There little boxing hero was beat up and out boxed in the first one, but point out that Duran had "no heart".

Let me tell you one more thing before I head off to bed. A lightweight champion dethroning a welterweight champion was unprecedented for 50 YEARS. Leonard was near his prime as well when Duran defeated him and don't be fooled --the first fight mattered most. Duran was the best fighter since Ray Robinson himself - don't be fooled.
