    Born. But I also believe heavy hitting can be farmed. The tendency for those who choose to "load up" on their punches can create a bottom layer to their fundamental striking technique. I believe hand speed can be farmed as well based on the same principle. How the muscles and tendons are tutored plays a major role in how they function.

    Additionally, not all punchers have lethal force in all their shots, but they do have the ability to (again) "load up" on certain stuff. Power punching or being a puncher generally represents the application of one single concentrated blow delivered with all available energy, critical timing, and appropriate mechanics.

    I think it has a lot to do with how a kid chooses to step to the heavy bag when he's first getting started. Most trainers will try and steer them away from loading up on their shots. The rest is foreordained.
