I mean, was the worst thing about Ricky Hatton's career that he "conceded too much for big money fights"? And Pacquiao "not smack talking enough"??? They smack of the very fanboy-ism this thread is highlighting.

An honest fan of the sport would have said that Hatton was just too undisciplined as an athlete and rather than conceding too much, actually like to gain too much..... weight that is. And an honest fan of Pacquiao's would have lamented that he didn't just take the blood tests, accept 50/50 and try to f- Mayweather up for his accusations. He could have, but he refused.

    For me:

Lennox Lewis got arrogant and careless at exactly the wrong times and it got him knocked out by two fighters he shouldn't have lost too. They will always be a stain on his resume. Also, in round 5 of the first fight against Holyfield, he stood pawing like a fool when Holy was badly hurt. Oh NOW you want to be cautious Lennox! Jeez!

sidenote: Lewis's smack talk was terrible! LOL! (probably why his commentary is so bland.. absolutely.... definitely),
Yea some of the answers I see here are ridiculous.

Anyway Rid**** Bowe: Didn’t train like he should have, Came into fights in horrible shape, duck/dodged Lennox Lewis

Napoles: Paper thin skin and he didn't take training seriously 100%, was an alcoholic, which led to inconsistent performances.

Rigondeaux- turned pro too old, doesn't have the marketability to match his talent

Once Shane actually showed interest in fighting him, after Shae stopped Marg to become the guy at WW, Floyd fought him. That could have happened earlier had Shane wanted it.
Shane stopped Marg in Jan of '09 to become the man at WW. Fights with Berto and Clottey fell through thereafter, and Floyd came back in Sept of '09 to fight Marquez. The Floyd/Mosley fight ended up happening about 1 1/2 years after Shane stopped Marg.

I was going to initially argue that Floyd should've fought Shane in '09, but in Floyd's defense, he was coming off a long layoff. (Floyd/Hatton happened in Dec. of '07) So not sure I can knock Floyd for that.

I do believe, however, that you can knock him for facing a lightweight at that time AND coming 2 lbs. over. Should've fought a decent welter.

He should have fought Shane instead of Marquez, and I did knock Floyd in 09' for fighting Marquez. Although, Floyd should get some credit for shutting Marquez out, given Marquez just arguably beat Pac at the same weight.

All I was saying is that if it happened in September 09' or May 10', it was going to be the same result. He wasn't all of a sudden worse in 2010 than in 2009, the only difference was the guy standing in the ring with him in 2010.

It could have happened when Floyd called Shane out in 05-06.

The difference, for Shane, between fightng Floyd in Sept '09 and May '10 is 8 and 16 months, respectively. Considering Shane's age, I'd say that it was a factor.

The infamous tooth excuse by Shane, after Mosley/Vargas II, was when Shane just finished fighting for the 3rd time in 10 months (This was in '06). He had vacations planned, and Larry was asking him about a bout with Floyd only 3 or 4 months later. I don't knock Shane for that. He's never ducked anyone, sans a prime Paul Williams.

I think it had more to do with Mayweather-Oscar being a real possibility and Shane couldn't say "Oh, well Oscar is getting the first shot against Floyd, not me".

My thing with the whole 16 month layoff excuse is this......why is a layoff an excuse for Floyd whupping Shane, who was coming off stopping Margarito and was one of the highest ranked fighters at the time, but it's not an excuse everytime Floyd comes off a significant layoff???
