Effect on MMA IF America got a dominant Heavyweight Boxing Champ

Obviously right now you could argue that MMA and in particular the UFC is the most popular combat sport in America (not the world imo)

But I feel a large part of it's fanbase is due to disillusioned boxing fans.

What would be the difference, in boxing popularity if America did find the next Tyson? the next Ali?

Personally I think the UFC popularity over boxing would absoloutley nose-dive

None. There has to be multiple great HWs to have a huge effect. Sure it'll help the ratings on HBO, but it won't be significant.

Tyson's era was not exactly stacked with multiple greats during his prime, and he still became a world famous superstar

If another Tyson came around he would still be a star. MMA is on tv because the networks can get it alot cheaper than major boxing events. Also why you see more poker playing shows than boxing too. TV networks wants to pay less money even if people don't watch.

He has to be marketable...look at Ward. Amazing fighter but boring and dull... If there were no Klitchkos..and say...David Haye was american people would be all over him down here. America has Floyd though so I dont think it changes anything. MMA is unfortunately still not taken serious by many and people still think its a fad... If only jon jones was more likeable they could market him much more but for now mma just doesnt have the history. Give it another 20 years for when the kids whoare growing up specifically training mma and we'll have serious case then. For now, America doesnt need a heavyweight champ since Floyd is around and theres others who will continue after him.

Why do people think there is some kind of competition, as if one hurts the other? If boxing got a boost, MMA would likely get some of the ripple.

i was waiting for this post from someone.

It does, I know it shouldn't, but it does, it's a fact. There is a rivalry there, its the same as the gay PS3/Xbox rivalry (childish, but sadly it's a fact)

the success of one will come at the cost of the other.

There is only so much combat sport one can watch, a lot of people will "pick a side"

I'll settle for surviving after current generation retires.

Pac, May, K2 and Martinez are gone soon.

Even Roy, Holyfield and Toney will fight till later date.
