Remember when Ward called out Martinez?

I believe it was after Martinez beat Macklin. Ward was asking Martinez to move up in weight and fight him on Twitter. But God forbid Dawson asks him to go up 2 lbs. I truly believe Dawson said what he said on that interview just to get Ward's attention. If that wasn't the case he wouldn't had asked for a catchweight.

I also remember people complaining because Sergio said he wouldn't be willing to move up to SMW. The one who is challenged shouldn't be made to look like the coward when they don't accept (when they're not in the same division). Had Dawson said, "I'm willing to fight Andre Ward" and had been ambiguous about the weight, then Ward would've had nothing to hold him to. Dawson gave Ward an out and he took it. Ward had no intentions of moving up to fight Dawson, he was gonna hold Dawson to his word, regardless if his word was something that he immediately regretted. If Dawson decided to take back what he said previously, he could've just not signed the contract and fought the winner of Pascal/Cloud. Chad's pride got the better of him for a moment and now he finds himself in his current situation.

First of all, Martinez said it would be an honor to fight a great champion like Andre Ward and that he would consider moving up to face him. This is when minor talks surfaced and Ward said what he said.

Martinez is already small for MW. Ward is a big SMW.

wait a second. dawson called out ward on tv and challenged him to a fight and said he'd fight at 168. its not Ward's obligation to move up in weight.

Your signature is my future wifey. But yeah, Martinez is already a small MW, and he's a fully grown man. It's not like he has time to naturally get bigger. His weight is what it is. No way Martinez goes up to fight the best SMW in the world, with a clear cut weight advantage. It's not like going up in weight to fight some bum like Margarito.

Im just saying this dude milks every advantage to the last drop. Dawson didnt have to move down to fight Ward either. But he had the balls to call him out and fight him under his terms. If Dawson REALLY wanted to fight at 168 tho he wouldnt had proposed a catchweight during negotiations.

Ward is fighting in his hometown and at his weight class. Forget the belts. It's obvious Dawson don't care about those cause at 170 Ward's belt wouldnt had been on the line.

To be fair Martinez DID respond and say he could meet Ward at 165 it was no problem with him so long as they can come to an agreement. This was the same interview where they told him Bernard wants to fight at 170 (lol). Anyway, it didnt pan out, Lou was smart to not let it happen lol. Itd be like Arum throwing Pac at Serg.

Dawson did challenge Ward though and though petty, it is what it is. Props to Dawson. Said eff it.

its on Dawson. he should have never called him out at 168. once he did that, he essentially closed the door at negotiations because they knew he would agree. doesn't matter much at this point. this is still a very good, challenging fight for both men. I doubt Dawson will be drained but we will see. ward may get his way in negotiations but that's wat he's supposed to do. either way he still fights great fighters so I don't see why ppl complain about his advantages. there's a few guys out there who fight ****ty fights and still try to milk every advantage they can.
