He didn't lose a single round in the whole tournament. Definitely going to keep my eyes open on this one.
The only shame is that hes just an little flyweight. We need more talent in the higher weight classes. There is already Rigondeaux and Gamboa in the lighter classes. Erislandy Savon turning pro would be amazing but i guess as the nephew of the great Felix Savon he prefers to stay in Cuba. We can only hope Solis finally gets in shape.

I agree. Especially when taking age into consideration.

Don't forget about Julio Cesar La Cruz. He's another very talented fighter that got upset in the quarters. Then you have Roniel Iglesias who's a very solid fighter as well.

I thought him and Ramirez looked the best, if you ask me.

I've been touting Robeisy from the first fight I saw him in. The kid has a future as a pro; he knows how to box and isn't afraid to mix it up. Ramirez almost single-handedly dispels the myth that Cuban amateur boxers are only successful because they're men fighting boys.

However, much as I'd like to see Robeisy (and the others) defect, I think he's just too young to come over to the U.S. by himself. Unless Ramirez has a serious support system awaiting him in the States, he won't make it. A lot can happen in four years, though. By then there might be serious change in Cuba. And even if there isn't, Ramirez will be 22 by the time he fights in Brazil. He'll be much more ready to defect and head straight for a pro career.

Ive known people who were dying to leave and once they did and got here the stress and depression was too much. Some eventually went back the others pulled it thru and stayed.

Same here, bro. I've known, and heard of, many Cubans that came over to the United States and got a rude awakening. Lots of people seem to think they're handing out free gold bricks here in the U.S.

A kid like Robeisy, just eighteen, would not have good odds of making it. Some of the other, much older, Cubans that defected weren't able to adjust to the differences in free living: too many distractions, too many temptations, not enough discipline, etc.

I don't think Robeisy is "goofy" at all. He's a kid, eighteen years old. Like a lot of talented (and not so talented) guys his age, he thinks he's got it all figured out. He was having fun on the world stage. God bless him. When Ramirez got into the ring, he delivered. Every time. The young champ didn't lose a single round on his way to an Olympic gold medal. And there were no controversies, as with so many others. Robeisy won every fight clearly.

A smiling, likeable fighter is a marketable fighter. Combine that with a penchant for winning and you've got a potential superstar on your hands. It’s partly what helped make De La Hoya so successful.

lol I saw that. I can only refer to my previous comments above. If I had Robeisy's talent and success at such a young age, I might've done worse. lol Ramirez was soaking in the limelight. He must’ve had chills. Who knows? It might be the highlight of his life. I wish him much more success, though. Robeisy seems like a nice kid.

Yeah he's definitely on my watch list. I just hope he can somehow find away to cash in on his talents.

Maybe defend his gold medal in Rio and turn pro after that. I would hate to see him in a situation where he's still fighting at the amateur level into his late 20's and then enters a Rigo/Lara type of situation where your in your prime years and have so few pro fights under your belt.
