Robeisy Ramirez was the most impressive looking fighter during this entire Olympics IMO...Amazing young fighter, SO COMPLETE!

The only shame is that hes just an little flyweight. We need more talent in the higher weight classes. There is already Rigondeaux and Gamboa in the lighter classes. Erislandy Savon turning pro would be amazing but i guess as the nephew of the great Felix Savon he prefers to stay in Cuba. We can only hope Solis finally gets in shape.Comment

However, much as I'd like to see Robeisy (and the others) defect, I think he's just too young to come over to the U.S. by himself. Unless Ramirez has a serious support system awaiting him in the States, he won't make it. A lot can happen in four years, though. By then there might be serious change in Cuba. And even if there isn't, Ramirez will be 22 by the time he fights in Brazil. He'll be much more ready to defect and head straight for a pro career.Comment

The kid is too young man. Unless he has family in the states what is he gonna do here by himself? I don't see him defecting. The change from Cuba to here is tremendous. Ive known people who were dying to leave and once they did and got here the stress and depression was too much. Some eventually went back the others pulled it thru and stayed.

A kid like Robeisy, just eighteen, would not have good odds of making it. Some of the other, much older, Cubans that defected weren't able to adjust to the differences in free living: too many distractions, too many temptations, not enough discipline, etc.Comment

A smiling, likeable fighter is a marketable fighter. Combine that with a penchant for winning and you've got a potential superstar on your hands. It’s partly what helped make De La Hoya so successful.
lol I saw that. I can only refer to my previous comments above. If I had Robeisy's talent and success at such a young age, I might've done worse. lol Ramirez was soaking in the limelight. He must’ve had chills. Who knows? It might be the highlight of his life. I wish him much more success, though. Robeisy seems like a nice kid.Comment

Yeah he's definitely on my watch list. I just hope he can somehow find away to cash in on his talents.
Maybe defend his gold medal in Rio and turn pro after that. I would hate to see him in a situation where he's still fighting at the amateur level into his late 20's and then enters a Rigo/Lara type of situation where your in your prime years and have so few pro fights under your belt.Comment
