Besides, olympic coverage has never guaranteed pro following in Mexico....look at Cristian Bejarano...and he actually won a medal.Last edited by -Hyperion-; 08-05-2012, 07:31 PM.Comment

Besides, olympic coverage has never guaranteed pro following in Mexico....look at Cristian Bejarano...and he actually won a medal.
And Bejarano did have some sort of coverage at the beginning, but he didnt fight enough, and his style was not one that mexicans liked, also it helped that by that time, boxing in Mexico was in its Dark Ages, on PPV in Cablevision, that **** affected the likes of Barrera and Morales, they would now have the double in popularity if boxing was on National TV, like it is now.
And he's not just a brawler, he fought this way because of the scores, and because of the type of opponent, I have watched Oscar like 15 times, and he knows how to box and be patient waiting for counters too behind his high guard, in this fight he just felt desperate for the style of the opponent, the crowd favoring the Irish, and the judges, that's why he fought so reckless, if you compare him versus his other 2 fights versus the indian and Yunusov (One of the best ranked in the division) it's night and day.
And in this fight he had the Irish at the brink of a stoppage, like I said one more round and Nevin was out, and just imagine without headgear, damn.
Also he waited for this Olympics, because in his first Olympics he was only 17, he gave the eventual Gold winner a really tough fight, and he did all of this with almost no experience fighting outside of Mexico, so he waited 4 more years and has already a Bronze Medal at the World Championships, a Gold Medal at the Junior World Championships, a Silver Panamerican Medal, etc.
With his strenght and his experience, I bet any Professional opponent will have a tough time trying to KO him.Last edited by ksan; 08-05-2012, 07:53 PM.Comment

When did I say that Oscar would want to help his new rival?why the **** would oscar want to help his new rival now, 50 said to oscarthat he no longer gets **** from floyd, lol, 50 was a failed actor, lol, his mainstream fans didnt come to his films, lol, maybe if 50 makes a boxing match and the main event will be a 50 cent concert, maybe his promotions might work, lol, i doubt his fans will see the fights and will only show up for the rap concert, besides oscar v. is is most likely gonna sign up to a genuine real prmoter who has indeed promoted fights like top rank or goldenboy, if oscar wants to make a rap album, lol, then he should sign up with 50
Also casuals know more about 50 than Oscar, so if you dont believe that he will help to get boxers in the Mainstream and reach a new demographic, then Oscar has no shot in hell to do that.

I saw his fights in the olympics...looked just as unskilled, but was able to impose his size on smaller opponents who didnt fight the right fight.i said that once he fought a mover he was gonna lose, because he has no jab, throws a bunch of telegraphed lead powershots, has a tendency to go into a shell with no upperbody movement, too squared up, etc.....without headgear? dude the headgear helped him today....he did his damage with body shots...he got hit with 4-5 headshots for every one he landed. And he's not just a brawler, he fought this way because of the scores, and because of the type of opponent, I have watched Oscar like 15 times, and he knows how to box and be patient waiting for counters too behind his high guard, in this fight he just felt desperate for the style of the opponent, the crowd favoring the Irish, and the judges, that's why he fought so reckless, if you compare him versus his other 2 fights versus the indian and Yunusov (One of the best ranked in the division) it's night and day.

yes 21 is old for a mexican brawler at featherweight to be making his debut....if he were like the cubans, it wouldnt be a problem...
Amateur credentials mean nothing...judges are awful, hell, the judges actually had him 5-5 in the first round
i know about Bejarano and the whole situation in mexico(i live here) but the point was, onlympic coverage means nothing, if Valdez gets popularity, its gonna be because the networks shove him down people's throats.....like they did with all the guys that are popular now in mexico...
I see a very low ceiling for him, but hey, there are some s*hit champions in the era of four belts per division so maybe he will prove me wrong.Comment

Yet these "people" you refer to, hate the Klitschko's....People like winners, just look at Juan Manuel Marquez, he fix his style later in career and he has the most ratings now on Mexican National Television.
Ward will just need to change his style a little bit, and that's all.
People love winners, and Ward is a winner, and with the help of someone like 50 to get his name out there, where boxers cannot get, that will be fantastic for his marketability.
Two of the most hated men in boxing in America, who have done nothing but win the past 5-7 years...Comment

So what if television promotes them?... That's what boxing needs, all the help it can get, I know they do that with Canelo, and yeah his competition is piss poor , but not every boxer they market is like that.
And about the age of debut, he's at a perfect age, because he can be fighting more experiencied fighters right away.
Many mexicans that debut at 15, have their amateur careers their first years as a pro, Valdez has had the opportunity to do so at amateurs fighting around the world and in the Olympic with the best of them.
He will be more prepared for the Pro game, that some guy that debut at 18, and by 21 is fighting guys with losing records.
They can manage Oscar faster to the top thanks to his many amateur fights and International tournaments, and his transition will be really smooth because he already has a Pro Style.
Just look at Leon Spinks beating Muhammad Ali at only his ninth fightLast edited by ksan; 08-05-2012, 08:20 PM.Comment

I really like the Klitschko's, Wladimir more than Vitaly, Vitaly has the more talent, and Wladimir had to reinvent himself, and now is the Perfect HW winning machine.
They might just hate them, because they want their "Tyson" type fighters back and all the aura of that era and of course for them they are the big bad Evil russians from Rocky IV, so they need an American HW to restore everything at how it was then.Last edited by ksan; 08-05-2012, 08:25 PM.Comment
