    Barthelemy bit Brewers neck!

Barthelemy DQ’d after biting Brewer in the neck

Report and photo by Jose E. Santiago

Former Contender series star Grady Brewer (30-14, 16 KOs) won by fifth round disqualification over Giorbis Barthelemy (25-10-2, 10 KOs) in a bout for the IBO Inter-Continental jr. middleweight title on Saturday night at the Cobb Galleria Center in Atlanta, Georgia. After a quick start by Barthelemy in the first two rounds, he capitalized his success with a straight left that dropped Grady in the third. Grady responded well to being dropped by increasing his aggressiveness. In the fourth is when things got weird. As Grady moved forward trying to land haymakers Barthelemy used an illegal hand swipe to Grady’s legs that dropped the Contender series champ. After getting deducted a point for his illegal tactic in the fourth Bathelemy, it only went downhill from there. In the fifth, during a clinch, Barthelemy locked into Grady’s neck with a vicious bite. After realizing the transaction referee Brian Stutts immediately disqualified Barthelemy.

I remember when I was just a kid still (17) and the Tyson thing happened, I thought he was the only person in the world to bite someone in a boxing match. As I got older, I've seen biting, especially on the shoulder, maybe 10-15 or more, it's almost common.

You're right. It's a lot more common than most of us are aware of. But it's still kinda psycho. lol

Just checked, he will be 42 this december.

They should both probably consider retiring. Sadly they'll probably be a rematch.

Kind of sad, man. Unless you're already a star, at that age, there's practically zero chance you'll ever land a big money fight. You're either clinging onto that dream for dear life, need the money desperately or love the sport too much to call it a career. There's just no money in the kind of fights Brewer is landing nowadays. If his love of boxing is that great, he'll soon be getting pounded by guys less talented, but much younger, than himself. In any case, Grady really ought to give it up.

He upset Fernando Guerrero just last year, it's one of his best wins
