And he can only be effective with it when his opponent either steps forward slowly or lunges in, a powerful but limited weapon. Froch took advantage of that by staying on the outside, feinting and then closing the distance quickly before Bute could counter.

This x20. This is precisely the reason Johnson fought the timid fight that he did, he fought appropriately to avoid the uppercut, sticking to his jab. But the style didn't suit him at all. Good to see someone else who realizes this about Bute. It's also very hard for him to get done against South paws.. he didn't get anything done against Magee until late.

Gotta be honest though, I thought he'd catch froch with a few because froch has a tendency to come in like that. To my surprise, Froch fought the perfect fight. Full on aggression without the small mistakes that could get him caught. I still can't get over how dominant a performance that was.

The Ruelas brothers had text book upper cuts that they used a lot

Finito Lopez used an upper cut after a jab, a thing of beauty

Any of the Bowe/Holyfield fights has a lot of upper cuts thrown in the fight

Razor Ruddock made a living off his upper cut

I was surprised by Froch's strategy as well, him and his trainer came up with the perfect gameplan. Froch's usual style was tailor made for Bute (I laughed when people said Froch should just walk Bute down, he would have got killed if he had fought that way) but he was able to change it to fit the gameplan. He's an underrated tactician.

Styles make fights but strategies win them.

Tommy Morrison is known for an amazing left hook, but his uppercut was very powerful and underrated.

JMM is obviously a great uppercut puncher but how about showing those uppercuts Alvarado landed against Prescott.....they were vicious.
