I remember that Cotto was forced by contract to fight Manny. He didn't even want to fight him at 145 for the WW title. But he was forced to. Dawson on the other hand called our Ward and said that he was willing to come down in weight. These are two different situations.

you think during the first round of negotiations he just said ok ward i'll do whatever you want! he obviously tried to get the fight above 168 but failed. the end result is the same. both drained. dawson just gave away his hand before the negotiations began because he's an idiot. cotto knew he wasn't walking away from a huge payday against pac. dawson knew as well but he gave up all his leverage before negotiating.
