would be cool if Shawn started postin again. He built up a nice fanbase by doing that. He should come back for a lil.

Thanks to the TS because I had no idea that this was on the undercard. I always felt that Gomez was very solid & underrated. There is nothing wrong with being an Alphonso Gomez. Everyone is not meant to be a star.

He's the kinda guy that keeps the business going. Just a nice solid guy to watch. Maybe one day he can get over the full hump. I wont root for anyone in this fight or should I say that I wont root "against" anyone in this fight

Not to offend but I've heard that position before and it makes no sense whatsoever. Alvarez had no reason on the biggest stage of his career at the time to toy with Gomez in such a way that he looked bad for half a fight then get a fishy stoppage. The alternative explanation is much more likely. If you've watched Alvarez fight, his style is to be a counterpuncher first and foremost, he doesn't like to lead unless his opponent totally shells up, and he doesn't like to waste punches. In effect, he'll take what the opponent gives him, which is generally not bad, but when dealing with the tricky movement, good jab, and good punch variety of Gomez, he was confused because he didn't have his usual openings to counterpunch and his opponent wasn't shelling up for Alvarez to get off the combinations he was used to getting against punching bags like Matthew Hatton and Ryan Rhodes. You could literally see Canelo shaking his head a little bit in frustration after Gomez had strafed him on the ropes at a few points in the fight. In short, Gomez forced Canelo into looking bad because he's a solid fighter that has some qualities that Canelo wasn't used to facing, and at the least, Shawn Porter is in for a tough fight. The only guy that has ever dominated Gomez was prime Miguel Cotto when Gomez had a still injured hand and pancreatis in the middle of his training camp to deal with. Porter looks like he'll be a good one in the future, but this is a big step-up in competition from what he's faced so far, Gomez will be coming to win, not coming as a stepping stone.

Of course, Porter hopes to keep his zero defeats alive but it won't happen. Gomez had 5 wins in the last 6 -only losing to Alvarez. Except for an early stoppage, Alfonso was beginning to win rounds against Canelo but the stoppage ended his chances. Look for Alfonso to come out strong and use all the skills we have seen him utilize against alot of opponents. SHowtime will open with this fight- don't miss it!! Irish Ed
I think he has a good chance if he can hold it together early. Porter seems to me like a mini Kirkland except his chin might be better and his stamina not as good. Seems like he lags in the second half. But probably knows this ain't gonna' be easy so maybe Porter'll be comin' in thinkin' about goin' the distance instead of KO. It's a good matchup and I like both guys. May the best man win!

Maybe the ref stopped the Gomez vs. Canelo fight early but I think Canelo was going to KO him right there without help from the ref. Gomez is game but I think Porter wins the fight. Gomez may have won a round or two but I think Canelo is a much better fighter than Gomez and knocks Gomez out early every time.

Canelo didn't show himself to be a much better fighter in that fight despite having a huge size advantage however, and that is telling. He might have stopped Gomez in a less sketchy manner had it continued, but there wasn't much time left in the round and Gomez has shown he can take a good bit of punishment in previous fights. Just as likely Gomez survives the round in my opinion and his recuperative abilities are good. But that's neither here nor there. The point is, Gomez has proven enough that he shouldn't be written off against Porter, who has never been in with anyone remotely as good. Porter hasn't even been tagged by any real significant shots to this point in his career so we have no idea how good his chin is, how his stamina will be, or how he'll react when that happens, and Gomez is, if anything, going to be throwing punches for as long as it goes.

I love fonso and he is a good fighter, but i dont think he handles explosiveness well at all....his chin is pretty solid, but he can be rocked with heavy handed explosive punches, he swells up easy and his flat footed style makes him lose his balance badly when he gets hit clean....leaving him pretty defenseless to the follow up barrage....style wise this is a difficult fight for him imo.....he needs to fight smart..... outwork porter and step back when he has to and kill the pace...if he gets greedy, porter could steal rounds with flashy punches....

will be an interesting fight....and i dont think porter's as good a puncher as the two guys who have stopped gomez....so imo, fonso has a good shot of handling the rough moments...

Size could be a determining factor as well....Porter is pretty short, but very beefy....will he be drained? or balloon up and really be a middleweight by fight time....

If forced to pick, i think Alfonso pulls off the upset a bit easier than imagined.....but that depends entirely on him handling Porter's power well....
