So are we going to get a slew of Floyd-lite punks?

Where did all this self-righteousness in boxing come from? Boxing has attracted questionable characters its entire history...Broner wouldn't even make the list of notable scumbags that have played a part in this sport over the past 100 years.
I'm not defending him or saying you have to like him, but what types of people do you really expect to get involved in what is, essentially, a blood sport. There is no team they are accountable to...they can say whatever they want without a filter and that is what I like about boxing even though you aren't always going to like what you hear. All that gets settled in the ring and people go on with their lives. Seeing these huge personalities is nothing new, in boxing of all sports. Having polar opposites like Broner makes the others who choose to show more humility stand out.Last edited by LA_2_Vegas; 07-23-2012, 06:59 PM.Comment

It's not about self-righteousness, I'm well aware boxing of boxing's make-up and murky history.Where did all this self-righteousness in boxing come from? My problem is that I just don't enjoy watching someone do such a lame, barely-disguised rip-off of a persona which in itself was fake. Not when he hasn't paid his dues.
I LOVE that boxers keep it real. I love the sh-t-talking and psychological warfare.
But this Broner really I find really aggravating, childish and plain insulting to my intelligence.Comment

i'm sympathetic to what your saying man.Seeing as people are convinced that Broner is the future and such a huge part of his persona is based on ripping off the Mayweather template - you know, acting like such an unbearable douche so people pay and hope to see you get beat.
Right now, we obviously can't tell whether Broner is gonna be a PPV star. I don't consider lots of people complaining about him being hyped/indulged signifying that Broner's plan to get under peoples skin so they tune in to see him lose, as working. Sometimes, people, boxing people, just like to complain when they see fighters getting pampered - JCC Jr, Canelo, Berto etc.
Let's just say the Broner thing works. And he becomes a PPV star.
Are we going to get a bunch of little punks faking it up and pretending they're Mayweather?
Does anyone find this prospect a little depressing?
I just feel like I'm getting my intelligence insulted with this sh-t. Some little twat running with lines Floyd used to say (apparently Broner is now Mr HBO) when he's only a few fights removed from going life and death with Ponde De Leon.
It all just feels like an arch manipulation. This guy comes in with this Floyd tribute act, and people have fallen for it.
And if it works for Broner, are we gonna get more of these ignorant clones?
Honestly, HBO better be really careful. Because what they're doing now is alienating existing fans, the guys who have put up with the nonsense for years.
this broner always on. and playing it up for the cameras acting way too cool. always posing with a clown look on his face.
this is like narcistic behavior.Comment

Only the dumbest ****s would miss the whole point of the Garcia's Dad thing.
But then, you wouldn't mistake anyone who boasts about raping men with being intelligent, would you?
Poor Larry. Trying to pretending he isn't Larry.
Is it hard not doing your Monday thread round-up of the fight, Larry? I know being a prolific thread starter gave you an identity that you just can't muster at the call centre.Comment

If fighters come in with the Floyd self promotion plan and it works hate the people that are dumb enough to eat it up. Boxing is a tough business, and if it happens to earn them a few more dollars I won't care at all. In the end it still comes down to what happens in the ring.Comment
