I'm not even saying Haymon is doing anything wrong or illegal, and perhaps it's just personal bias (I do have a prejudice against the rich and powerful, especially when the mechanism of control remains opaque). but I just find his role troublesome...when he was just 'advising' 5 or 10 fighters it was one thing, but his 'clients' now include a wide selection of titleholders, prospects, and the guys that the latter would have to go through to meet the former.

In short, Haymon is rapidly gaining the power to either make you a champion, keep you a champion or deny you the fights required for you to become a champion.

How he chooses to use this power is of course yet to be seen, but I find it hard to believe his interest is in anything other than profit - even if (and it may not, for all my scepticism) that comes at the expense of the sport as a whole and even fewer of the fights we want to see made as fans.
Well put. His "advisorship" is purposefully placed to avoid potential legal ramifications for instance, it's a device to buffer any idea that he is a "manager" of any capacity whether direct or indirect. That legalese is verbatim in the ALI act where a manager and promoter cannot play the same role. However, an advisor is clearly out of that incestuest relationship.

      Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act

      https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/106/hr1832

      FIREWALL BETWEEN PROMOTERS AND MANAGERS-

      1) IN GENERAL- It is unlawful for--

      (A) a promoter to have a direct or indirect financial interest in the management of a boxer; or
      (B) a manager--
      (i) to have a direct or indirect financial interest in the promotion of a boxer; or
(ii) to be employed by or receive compensation or other benefits from a promoter, except for amounts received as consideration under the manager***8217;s contract with the boxer.

      (2) EXCEPTIONS- Paragraph (1)--

      (A) does not prohibit a boxer from acting as his own promoter or manager; and
      (B) only applies to boxers participating in a boxing match of 10 rounds or more.

Now where is Al Haymon in violation at?

      • Most of the big names in the list were built up by HBO. Mares is the only one fans knew SHO built up. And his highest purse so far was a mere $300K.

SHO needs to spend massive amounts of money to build up new fighters. If not, it can only go downhill for Haymon and Schaefer from here.

          • Haymon may have an issue with the 9/13/14 date.

            • I must admit, even the most diehard Haymon fan can't defend the Danny Garcia matchup at the Barclay

                • wow. i keep seeing this stupid list. it almost seems like it's a natural instinct for floyd worshipers to show a list of haymon fighters to support their doom and gloom theory, "look at this list, hoya is screwed."

i have yet to see an answer from these stupid worshipers a simple question. where are these haymon fighters going to go, if not gbp?

what a bunch of seven year olds.
