it doesn't matter the volume of detractors, only if their reasoning is sound. people complain that haymon fighters get good dates. The problem is HBO, not al haymon.

HBO's current execs believes in the star driven system relative to boxing. HBO is putting on fights that end up not being competitive. How is this al haymon's fault?
That was me and my statement had less to do with their respective positions and more with the way they conduct their business. I know exactly what Haymon does.

And if you really don't think uncompetitive fights are Haymon's fault, especially when hes a MANAGER/ADVISOR, then you need to do some research yourself.

so then Haymon has yet to work his magic and Devon can stop facing tough guys like Matthysse, Kotelnik etc?

      agree

      • before it gets too far into discussion

Haymon's formal role is manager/advisor etc to fighters

however, he also controls what is put on cards as he deals directly with the networks to get his fighters dates.

        question to all

how do you think Lopez got the fight with both Ortiz and Alvarez?

he had a stretch where he was paid an undeserved amount in fights that shouldn't have been on TV. I'm actually curious to know if there was any other fighter who had more HBO appearances than him in the past 4 years.

so the fights we get spoon fed that pit his fighters against less than stellar opposition is okay and needs no defending yet if promoters do it or other managers do it then it's not acceptable and subject for debate?

cmon man as much covert racial or nationalistic bandwaggoning or crap that's thrown around here you don't think it applies to everyone?

the vast majority of people on here contain some type of bias based on their own race or nationality.

dont play that you know he does not speak in the public eye

but you are witness to all that he has done to the sport. Does he benefit fighters? of course he does but so does Cameron Dunkin (who takes crap for Donaire not fighting Rigo) so does GBP etc etc

to me it seems like some on here are willing to give him a pass due to his race

I hear terms like "he's playing the system" or "he's beating the old dudes at what they do best" and essentially people are saying

well if those guys can get over on the sport well then so can he

its not acceptable from anyone period
ABsolutely not. Bull**** is bull**** we all agree. but if a poster is complaining about this type of blowout but not the ones put on by other promoters then clearly its not about the blowouts. if you are an eqaual opportunity complainer, like i told new england, we have no beef.

fair point about duncan and donaire.

your last paragraph is where the issue is for me. the problem is those posters that do this before the fight, not after. for example, today, poster dan_cov already is trashing hank lundy just because broner may fight him. if you don't think there is an element of race to that criticism then we will always disagree.

As i told new england if your beef is why gary russell gets an 8 rd fight on TV, I am with you. But if you only complain about haymon and not HBO, well that makes me think there is a clear agenda.

                • These are the Haymon basics: Harvard-educated; successful in live concert promotion, then television production, now boxing; extensive list of celebrity clients; a brother, Bobby, who once fought Sugar Ray Leonard; no office, no answering machine, no photographs, no interviews.

well I am fair across the board bad match ups or utilizing what few dates we have on major cable for them is awful and not needed for a sport that hangs on literally every fight card

                    no all are involved

my thinking goes to the people who praise Haymon for jerking the system off like every other promoter out there and yet getting a pass from certain people due to his race

if Arum were to put Jose Benavidez on HBO in a spotlight fight don't you think people would have been up in arms over it? hell people call for Arum's passing

I dont think anyone here asked Haymon to die
