Comments Thread For: Frampton-Martinez Clash is Confirmed For Sept. 22

Eddie Hearn of Matchroom has confirmed that Carl Frampton, 14-0 (9), will challenge EBU super bantamweight titlist Kiko Martinez, 26-3 (19), at Belfast's Odyssey Arena on September 22. Frampton will hope to use the fight as a launch pad for a tilt at either Scott Quigg or Rendall Munroe, who met in June to establish domestic dominance. However, a clash of heads, which led to a cut to the eye of Munroe, meant that the interim WBA title fight was stopped and declared a technical draw - leaving a lingering uncertainty over who is the top man on the U.K. scene.

Big fight this for Frampton...a shame the cut to Munroe cut short his fight with Quigg as the 2 fights could of set off a series of fights between these fighters.

When the Brits hit the front I really hope they can get fights against the cream of the crop at 122, such as Mares, Rigondeaux, Donaire (prob won't be there though), and Moreno. Sort of Macklin, Barker, Murray situation, except with more talent.

Of course regardless of a win or loss Carl Frampton should fight Scott Quigg next. Also @ 122lb on a domestic level I'd like to see Welsh area champion Robbie Turley vs Ricky Owen & English champion Ryan Walsh vs WBC International title holder Kid Gallahad. Both should lead to British, Commonwealth & hopefully EBU title fights.

          Nice fight.

          About time Frampton stepped up.

Hopefully him, Quigg and Munroe get round to fighting each other. Quigg and Munroes no decision was such a let down.
