Both his parents are rican so if he wants to embrace his boriqua side, so be it, I don't see what the problem is. I was born and raised in north Philly in Danny's neighborhood, so if I was in Danny's shoes, I would also be throwing up the flag. Nothing wrong with that. He is puerto rican American. You're an idiot, seriously. If you are PR you should know how prideful we are of our culture, so you can't expect his parents to pass that on to him? So he is American as well, you do realize PR is a territory of the US right? You're more hypocritical than he is, seriously. He wore a PR flag when he fought Morales those were the only two times he's been on HBO with big exposure and he repped his culture twice.
****in idiot, it's bad enough when Mexicans hate on guys like Vargas or Rios because they weren't BORN in Mexico. Who cares, parents still instill their culture in their kids, and they are proud of it. He is still 100% PR considering its his DNA you dumbass.
Si Danny se siente boricua, Good for him. But fans, specially us rican fans who are effin sensitive due to our effing chauvinism, shouldnt been crowning him as a rican when Danny himself claims Philadelphia before PR. That pride is nothing like LaPorte or Benitez.Comment

And go learn some spanish if you dont understand what I just said. Theres a big difference between repping the place you where born into, and repping a place you've never even been too. Do we consider Carmelo Anthony too who decided to rep the US team instead of Puerto Rico? In politics you can be part of two countries, but in sports you should only represent the place your heart desires. Thats why we never see in a medal table: Puerto Rico (US) its only "La Monoestrellada".Last edited by ELHURACAN58; 07-18-2012, 09:23 AM.Comment

La diferencia entre tú y yo es que yo no he pedido, pido, ni pediré ser parte de Estados Unidos y el día en que llegue la independencia me quedaré aquí trabajando por sacar la isla adelante así que fíjate a quién le dices hipócrita mamón.

I have five nephews living in the state, 3 of them were born there. One of them have a tattoo of a PR flag. They all have been in PR plenty of time. But like them and many others they dont know our history. Eating arroz con gandules, pasteles and parrandeando doesnt make you rican. And I'm not saying that all ricans raised there dont know our culture. My two older brother and sisters live there their whole life but they know PR, they know our culture, they speak spanish better than some kids in the island and they are proud of it everywhere without carrying a flag or going to the parades.

I tell him: "Being puerto rican isnt just about hAVING PRIDE about our teams and our successes, its about knowing and showing what you are. By knowing I mean learning your history, where do we came from, why do we speak the way we do, why do we act the way we do. By showing I dont mean having a puerto rican flag wherever you go and screaming Viva PR I represent you. Its about being able to tell an asking person what a puerto rican is, eating like we do, speaking like we do, and best of all, celebrating like we do."
I have french and arab blood in me, but Im as french and arab as the TV shows me. I also tend to surrender whenever I get involved in fights and prefer to eat with my hands if possible, so that may be a few hereditary aspects, but the only place I would ever represent is the one where I currently live (and lived all my life in).
Danny Garcia is as puerto rican as Carmelo Anthony right now. If he wants to represent us, he really needs to show it.Comment

Thats right, I too have 8 cousins in the US, only 2 of them I can really call puerto rican. One of them tells me he follows every puerto rican national team, but he cant speak spanish, hasnt tried half of what we eat here, and knows nothing (from what I can see) about our history.

All that PR flag waving day in and day out doesn't make you more Puerto Rican, it just means that your feeling shallow and insecure about yourself and the island. I mean all this divisiveness about who's born where and who's more authentic is some 19th century *****.
At the end of the day, Danny is PR and reps it. His fighting in the ring and wearing a flag does more to highlight PR than you've done. I like it because his small gesture of acknowledging his heritage is a welcome sight. He doesn't need to be d****d in a PR trunks, with PR bandanna, flag and robe to be a full PR.
War Danny
On topic: I see the similarities on how they throw hooks. I think Danny is a bit sharper, and they both have great beards and looks like stamina has that stamina. Margs was a beast on volume though. Plus I think Danny has more technical skills all around. Its a decent comparison, just a little off-centerComment
