Then again, it seems like with Oscar and GBP - they also tend to come out and say "No, not a word of it's true - we've not even spoken to so-and-so's Team".... and a day later they announce the very same fight, with contracts signed and venues set. You just can't tell with a guy like Oscar, who says "I was misquoted" in a VIDEO interview of himself.

I hope to stay optomistic and not buy in to the outrage JUST YET. I always tell myself, when I read ridiculous news like this, to wait a day or two until we hear it from the horses mouth, to get properly peeved.

IF it's true..... RIDICULOUS. These are the type of fights we get when fighters give too much power to their promoters. Say it ain't so, Joe.

Yeah that's what I'm goin' with until otherwise notified.

I wonder if they (boxing powers-that-be) throw **** out there through "unnamed source close to the blahblahblah" and let it circulate in the media and on the fansites/mssgboards, etc. for a few days and then consider the strength of the support/backlash in the decision making process.

I wondered that too... but with Oscar saying the final announcement was/is supposed to be today... I don't know that they could change it in that short of time. It may have been what they did with putting Mayorga's name out there. But if they've done ANY reading since this article has come out.... I can't imagine they've seen even a slight bit of positive feedback on Lopez being the opponent. Don't get me wrong, Lopez is deserving...... but not at a 154lb champ after he just came off his FIRST fight at 147lb (didn't even come in all the way at 147lbs for that) AND not after he (Lopez) just came off his toughest fight (in a new division) in what will be a little over 2 months to prepare to fight an even tougher fight at an even higher weight against THE 154 champ.

as I posted yesterday Alvarez's opponment would b just a name & some1 that's not a danger to him or GDP, fighting Lopez who's just a blown up lightie...WBC shouldn't sanction this...

Thats right.....but it seems like those would have to be PPV since Lopez probably came cheap.....and GBP knew PPV was out of the question cause that would be bad business competing in a PPV with JCC. I was just comparing why Lopez is better than Mayorga but I'd prefer Cotto, Lara, Kirkland in that order.

So what is this "History" being made as claimed by Oscar??? Other than Canelo fighting non-junior middleweights forever. And it seems strange the Lopez fight hasn't been officially announced....second thoughts by GBP or something else.

And why would "serveral sources" announce the fight rather than GBP???? Seems odd. Maybe they are embarrassed but had no choice because they were too stubborn to give up the date and couldn't chance a PPV, so they go with Lopez whose price was right.
