I wouldn't be surprised if they do pull something like that. Just for the simple fact that I don't believe Lopez's team would advise him to take this fight, not even three months after the Ortiz fight. There are obviously better fights out there for the guy, but instead his manager, trainer, promoter, etc. are content on the kid committing career suicide right after his biggest win.

Protect the Canelo hype at all costs, even if it means hurting the career's of your other fighters..(Lopez, Lara, K9 just signed with GB, right?)

Yeah see that makes alot of sense to me. Promoters are commonly thought (and seemingly with good reason) to be cynical and heartless, but his own camp?

If JesLo wins this fight I am calling him P4P #8. He has about a snowball's chance against Canelo coming from JWW & LW. I actually worry for his health with is wild swinging style.

So here is my take, I think that GBP stubbornly wanted the same date as the JCC fight and backed themselves into a corner but realized they couldn't compete with JCC/Martinez and didn't want to spend the money on a bigger name and Lopez came cheap enough. The didn't want to look like Arum came out on top by giving up the date. So they figure their fight being free might pull a decent number of viewers - and if they had got a better opponent for PPV, they might have lost money with the dual PPV's. They conceded in the way that they could. But that was all because they were stubborn in the first place.
