Comments Thread For: Eddie Hearn Maps Out a Big Career Run For Carl Froch

Carl Froch looks likely to face an alternative top 10 super-middleweight for his first defences of the IBF title he ripped away from Lucian Bute in May, according to promoter Eddie Hearn and could put a return with Mikkel Kessler on simmer for the time being.

Hearn, who watched on with delight as Froch pounded Bute into submission in five rounds earlier this year, is looking for a less intense clash for the Nottingham fighter before the three-time world champion heads to Montreal in March for the rematch.

I wouldn't mind seeing him fight Pavlik. The Kessler fight should have been next though.

I hope his tuneup fight is against Pavlik, if he wins decisively today, and then a rematch against Kessler instead of Bute. I don't want to Bute die in the ring in a rematch. An Andre Ward rematch is appealing as well.

If I was Froch, I'd go for the Kessler fight next. Froch is hot right now- he took very, very little punishment vs Bute. He's not getting any younger, nor is Kessler. Both fighters are riding high after knockout victories.

Froch-Kessler is the priority. Figuring out which top 10 to fight in order to keep busying before another Bute bout, is missing the boat. Also, there's nothing that really excites me about seeing Froch-Bute again. It was so lop-sided I'm not interested at this point.

Froch-Kessler in late 2012. That's the right fight.

RajahBell, what would be appealing about a rematch with Ward, I saw nothing in the first fight that appeals to me. Same story with Froch/Bute, both fights were so one sided I can't imagine either turning out differently. I'd like to see Froch/Kessler2 or Froch/Pavlik

Someone ought to tell the author of this article 'Phil D. Jay' that the people of Nottingham aren't interested in watching Andre Dirrell play hide and seek again and Adonis Stevenson doesn't have the name Froch needs at this stage of his career. Kelly Pavlik is a much more likely opponent if the Kessler fight isn't made.

well let me tell you it doesnt matter if stevenson doesnt have a name and ppl dont want to watch dirrell. whoever wins that fight is frochs mandatory and if he chooses to enforce that froch will either have to fight him or get stripped of his belt. that cant be overlooked when discussong frochs future.

and for the record whoever wins between stevenson and dirrell deserve a title shot at 168 more than pavlik and either one of them would be a much tougher fight.

you should give dirrell a break for the froch performace. he never been to that level, fougth at that pace or even went 12 rounds before so he tried to conserve his energy in the middle rounds. it an obvious case of pure inexperience, if you watched him since hes fought much better and been very entertaining.

froch-dirrell 2 is a great fight, to pretend dirrell is the same fighter he was 3 years ago is borderline ******ed.

                  Completely agree with Assassin.

A mandatory is a mandatory and clearly Hearn doesn't want a punishing fight with Kessler prior to rematching Bute.

Dirrell would be a great fight, and I've heard good things about Stevenson (most avoided fighter in the division etc.)

Whoever Froch fights will a) be a live decent opponent, in an era where it easy to take overmatched defences, and b) Froch will sell out Nottingham whoever he fights.
