Guys, seriously, I like B Vit as a boxer, but the politics is Ukraine is very complex.
Let me shed some light on this issue:
First thing to understand- Ukrainian is only spoken in day to day interaction by the western and northern halves of the country.
What most don't understand is the Russian is the spoken language of the other half of the country, so before you all scream about how oppressive it would be to have Russian as an official language of Ukraine, understand that it is just as oppressive to have Ukrainian forced on all the Russian speakers in the other half of the country.
Second, let's understand what Ukrainian actually is:
It is a language that may as well be Polish-Russo Hybrid, it is not as Authentic as the Western media wants you to believe. Most of the words that differ from Russian are actually a Polish influx.
Now, you also have to understand that Ukraine is an integral part of the Rus people(Russians, Belorussians, and Ukrainians). Those three groups of people are actually one people. Kiev is the cultural center of the Eastern Slavs. So, if anything the influx of Polish(Western Slav, Catholic, Latinized) is actually an invasive and foreign element to all peoples of the Rus.
Then you have to understand that Lvov, the capital of "Cultural" Ukraine, has been under Western control for so long that many western elements entered the country(Catholicism).
Ukraine the name itself means border land. It offensive to Ukrainian who are actually Melorussians(which means Lesser Russia, not in a derogatory way, but in the Geopolitical sense meaning center.) By calling Melorussians Ukrainians(Border land people), you are removing the history and culture from those people.
Also, before you call me a Russian and a communist understand that I was born in KIEV! And please, stop calling Russians communist. Most Russians view communism as a disease that nearly destroyed our civilization(Orthodoxy). Stalin was not a Russian...Comment

She's unnaturally young-looking for 52. Her daughter looks just like her and they could almost pass for sisters.

I'm not really sure they get all that much sympathy in the West however. Wasn't she imprisoned for doing gas deals with the Russians?*

So the Ukrainian language is not authentic but simply Polonized Russian lol Nice to see that the Tsarist and Soviet historical narritive and propaganda is alive and well.Guys, seriously, I like B Vit as a boxer, but the politics is Ukraine is very complex.

If the folks in the East and South don't mind the historical oppression and forced assimilation of Ukrainians in the past (which is why Russian is so prevelant) then they shouldn't mind experiencing it themselves.Comment

Mikhinenko,
I did not say it's in authentic because it is a necessarily Polish-Russian hybrid.
Let me clarify. If Ukraine is to be associated with Rus', and that in turn means Orthodoxy as a civilization model, not in just a religious sense, then the influx of primarily Polish(western, non-orthodox) element into the language changes the context of Ukrainian being this "pure Ukrainian".
Also, don't get me wrong. I don't think Russian should replace Ukrainian as an official language in the Ukraine. I think both languages can be, and should be, given official statues this way we all get to choose what we want to speak. But, I don't see how Ukrainians accept Ukrainian as some sort of pure language that evolved by it's lonesome on some farm in Lvov, while Russian is some sort of oppression language.Comment

christ. talk about showing some self control. get that man a spear and a shield and he'd be hard to stop.
i only read the headline and looked at the pictures, but did they specify the nature and extent of his injuries?
look at those two little guys hanging on to isenfaust klitschko for dear life.

vitali can probably threaten a man's life in about nine languages. he also speaks the language of intimidation.
