If Victor hadn't quit against Maidana, I don't think there would be such a backlash but people see this situation as a connotation and make the connection. But not every fighter can fight through a broken jaw.

wtf are you smokin dude? ortiz got his jaw broke in the beginning of round 9, and when he went back to his corner, his corner was tellin him to be quiet so the ref wouldnt stop it, and ortiz himself quit, nothing at all in the least to do with his corner. they were pissed off after he said he was done. ortiz is a quitter, plain and simple. people dont agree with the backlash? good for them. fighters dont appreciate that kind of stuff, sorry if it offends anyone. but ortiz didnt have enough guts to go out there, therefore he is a quitter. you're a boxer, this isnt a healthy sport, and you cant just quit when you dont feel like fighting anymore, ESPECIALLY when you can win on the cards. gtfo

umm no? He broke his jaw in round 5 at the time no one knew but in between rounds he whispered it to his trainer and you see his trainer whispering it back to him. He fought 3 more rounds with it and decided he couldn't go any longer.

also, fighting with a broken jaw and fighting with your jaw locked open are two different things. Dude couldn't close his mouth, you can't fight in that condition. He tried and couldn't do it no more.

for people like you that think people should fight to the death...go ask margarito how he now feels about that cuz his career is over. I hate Ortiz for quitting on Maidana but in this case, he did the right thing. How come no one's hating on cotto? He quit on pacquiao, he might have fought until the fight was stopped but so did Ortiz, he hit Lopez with some big shots in the 9th. He put up more of a fight than cotto cuz Miguel stopped trying after the 6th round and was looking to survive. At least Ortiz kept swinging until he couldn't any more.

I read the damage Victor had in this fight. ANyone who calls him a quitter for this is a real *******. The last 3 minutes of this fight could've been the difference in life or death for Vic. Posters who are not man enough to step in the ring have all the courage in the world from their laptops, smartphones, and parents computers in the basement.

Wrong wrong wrong!!!! There was backlash the first time he quit. So therefore IF this was the first time he quit...he would get backlash. Broke Jaw..cut eyes swollen face...hurt hand, hurt nuts...whatever the case is...A quit is a quit and people dont pay to watch quitters. Bet on Quitters...or watch quitters fight. Its a BIGGER backlash now not just because his JAW but because its the 2ND time he QUIT!
