i myself was pretty critical of ortiz. i happen to love MMA so i guess i have to agree with goosen here. i never thought of a mma fighter tappin as quitting as mush as boxing. hope he gets back.

Maybe someone should start a thread that asks, how many people on this forum have fought through a broken jaw? then we will have our answer if Ortiz made the right choice.

Im not an Ortiz fan, frankly I think he is emotionally immature person, probably not any fault of his own, he just had some really terrible circumstances in the emotionally developmental years in his young life.

But regardless of that, how many guys on this forum have been in the ring had their jaw broken in two places, were swallowing blood and being cracked repeatdly by a high calibre fighter............If you have please enlighten us with you opinion because its the only one that should hold any validity?

You are quite the wishful thinker. Do you think it was smart for Margarito and his team to have him continue fighting Pacquaio even though his eye was getting pounded every round? Til the point where he had to have major surgery afterwards? With doctors saying he should retire immediately? The reason why Margarito has retired NOW is because of that punishment from the Pacquaio fight.

But if Margarito and his team did the smarter thing and stopped the fight -- he would likely be fighting right now and with an intact eye.

That's not even close to the same situation. Not sure why people keep bringing that fight up to compare Ortiz too.

It is aggravating to hear such comments! It takes a lot of courage to step into that ring and fight for a living. The whole 'quitting' nonsense is as irritating as hearing people say whatever boxer is a coward for not fighting a specific boxer. Getting called a coward by someone who never so much as touched a boxing ring.

This is just as ****** to say as the Margarito comparison, and just like Margarito I don't know why people keep saying, "you've never fought, you don't know."

You should be comparing Ortiz to other professional fighters that have had their jaws broken, since he is a professional fighter, not a random poster on a boxing site.

It is not smart for any boxer to continue fighting with a broken jaw. It is a foolish and very, very risky thing to do. But unfortunately, there exists some fighters who at the time, ignore the permanent health risks and fight on (i.e. Margarito).

And there have been other professional fighters that have had a fight stopped for something less extreme and punishing than a broken jaw.

Dont matter what side you are on, you have to acknowledge that the way he went about it was bitch made. Dude jumped up from his corner and was calling for the ref, like a child calls for his mother when he is hurt. Dude is a head case.
