I thought it was a good stop when I saw his jaw. I knew he wasn't bullshitting after I saw the replay of the left he took with his mouth open. I'd love to see a rematch though.

Ortiz' trainer was right there. He wanted Ortiz to tough it out for the last three rounds (of course now he has to do damage control for the sake of Ortiz' career). Too much was on the line... Obv the Sept 15th fight was a wrap, but his career has now taken a serious hit. I doubt he ever gets to fight Canelo now.

No one disputes his jaw was ****ed up. Personally, I don't remember his mouth hanging open at all times. Probably because he closed it with his hands and I didn't notice. But he wasn't constantly fighting with an open mouth like Abraham was and the swelling wasn't quite as bad.

I realize he had a messed up jaw and that it must have hurt like hell. But he's the first I've ever seen quit due to a broken jaw. And this was a fight where quitting due to pain just should not have been an option. Only three rounds left, up on the cards, against a smaller man whose eyes were messed up (one eye swollen shut), Ortiz having revived his career, big fight(s) lined up, etc. This was like a special circumstance where you don't quit unless the doctor looks at the break and tells you that you can't safely continue.

Furthermore, he's already told us how he views his boxing career in the interview after quitting against Maidana. He doesn't feel he should take punishment. He's too intelligent and good looking for that.
I feel what you are saying but Ortiz could not tough it out but may have did the smart thing seeing how severe the doctor said his jaw was broken. Lopez was landing bombs on him at times, right on the button.

I wonder why Ortiz said his jaw got broken in the beginning of the 9th then?

The rematch should be another great fight but think Lopez will come out the winner again.

Ortiz may get a gift decision though.

Ortiz threw everything he had at Lopez and couldn't stop him.

Ortiz will be much more weary of Lopez and box more on the outside.

If Ortiz is ****** enough to want a WAR, Lopez will give him another one and stop Ortiz again.

If Ortiz toughed it out, the Sept 15th bout would obviously not be an option. But his career would be intact and both Canelo and GBP would be salivating at the thought of having them fight eventually. GBP so they could cashout on the hype job Ortiz and Canelo's people because it would be another easy but lucrative fight.
yea so that the broken jaw could just become a impediment in his next fights kind of like margarito? right?

Ortiz underwent surgery, docs placed a titanium bar and three screws in his jaw.

The severity of the broken jaw caused a severed vein which caused severe internal bleeding

Jaw was broken in two places

So where are all the internet tough guys from 2 days ago? You know, the ones saying they would have continued on a double broken jaw?

yup, it's the same ******s that were shitting on Robert Garcia for letting Margarito continue on that messed up eye, and now they're laughing at a guy who had his jaw broken in two places for "quitting"
