    Who deserves more respect. Old vs new.

    Picking out fights they had during the heights of their careers let's try work out who is more deserving of an all time great label AKA let's just see who really is better between the two.

    1.
    Heavyweights in the bum of the month club:

    At the height of his career Wlad fought Mormeck.

    At the height of his career Baer fought Cyclone Lynch, a fighter who had only one bout to his name and retired after losing to Baer.

    2.
    Undefeated over 40 wins:

    Floyd Mayweather. At the height of his career he fights Cotto

    Rocky Marcianno. At the height of his career he fights Harold Mitchell, a man with 3 wins and 13 losses.

    If Wlad and Mayweather fought similar competition like that today how would you feel? Keep in mind Rocky and Baer haven't fought too many more fighters than Mat and Floyd.

    wlad and mayweather deserve more respect than baer and marciano.

    this is laughable that you would pick those 2 vs. wlad and floyd. 2 overrated C- fighters against 2 great fighters. come on man...

        You're using these examples through boxrec, but that site has incomplete records of many fighters from the past, especially ones who were not top 10 rated. Its an unfair and unrealistic comparison my friend.

          1. Those are not "apples-to-apples" comparisons to make your point.

          Here are better examples:

          OLD
          Archie Moore fought at Light Heavyweight

          His final record was;

          185-23-10, 131 KO
          (Note that these were mostly 15 round bouts)

          Following his final match, a TKO loss to Muhammed Ali, Archie Moor Accepted a challenge from Pro Wrestler Mike DiBiase.
          Moore won by TKO 3, when the bout was stopped due to a cut over DiBase's eye.
          Up to that point, Moore had punished DiBase every round.

          NEW

          Anthonio Tarver fought at Light Heavyweight

          His current (final?) record is;

          29-6-1, 20 KO

          Final fight outcome: Lost, SD
          (Later changed to Disqualification)

          Disregarding Tarver's latest medical and licensing issues, based on professionalism, worksmanship, and Win/Lost quality/Ratio, which of the above two fighter, Archie Moore or Antonio Tarver (LHW) deserves the most respect?
          OLD, or New?

              Baer did not fight Cyclone Lynch at the height of his career exactly, the fight took place during an exhibition tour in which Baer, who had already lost his title at this point, KO'd three local boxers in a single week. I'm not even sure if these "fights" should be listed on his official record.

              When Rocky Marciano won the world title, he defended it only against his number 1 ranking challengers outside of Don C ockell who was rated top 3 at the time.
