for some reason I think these guys are just playing games on us. they are getting good publicity and hyping up BOTH fights. None of these guys strike me as the type that would lose money on principle. I bet they call each other everyday and plan out their press releases.

Arum lost my business with Pac-Man. Plus making Hbo vs Sho is good for us guys. Prices in tickets drop, Fans now actually get a chance in choosing who needs to fight who. No more waiting on a CEO to cash in on my cash when he decides to make a fight. Majority rule for once in the world of boxing sounds like a great idea to me. GBP is full of **** on this one. Golden Boy is always trying to under cut Arum. remember Cotto vs Margarito 2? GBP had Mares vs Agbeko the same night on showtime. I'm not saying it crushed the PPV number but it did take some money out of the old man's pocket.

plus why is Canelo fighting another blown up welterweight? I guess they ran out of faded stars. the only PPV fight for Canelo is Cotto IMO, all that other 5hit isn't important to me. atleast Chavez is fighting a p4p guy, that's worth my money.

Two facts stand out in this argument. 1) Top Rank reserved the date ahead of GBP. Shaefer does not deny this. His only excuse is, "he didn't know". Either he's lying or he's incompetent. Either way, that's his problem and not Arum's. 2) Ortiz has a fight that's coming up. How can GBP announce Ortiz's next fight when the upcoming fight hasn't even been completed yet? Are they saying that Ortiz is fighting a bum? If not, is the fight fixed then? Both promoters are capable of BS but in this argument, Schaefer is plainly wrong.

Hate to say it but Arum is right on this one. Canelo is a good young fighter but Chavez/Martinez is the bigger draw. I wouldn't be surprised if it did close to a million. Golden Boy would be better served moving the date to October to have the spotlight to themeselves.

By Chris Williams: Bob Arum has given up on trying to put together the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight for May or June.

Instead Arum is now looking to get a contract signed between the two of them right now for November so that Arum can start early in promoting the fight and getting a suitable venue to put it in.
Arum told the Manila Standard “What we are trying to accomplish assuming he [Mayweather] is going to fight in May and Manny is going to fight in June, is that we are pressing to see if we can get a contract signed between the two fighters for November.”

Good luck in having that happen. Arum is going to have to get with Pacquiao and have him agree to the purse split that Mayweather wants or else Arum is just going to be wasting his time with trying to put the fight together.

I don’t think Arum would let Pacquiao take this fight even if Mayweather agreed to a 50-50 deal. We’d get Arum then likely pulling the old arena excuse or something else that can screw up the negotiations so that Pacquiao doesn’t have to get beat. Arum does well with Pacquiao and putting him in with someone like Mayweather would wreck things.

Like lets say I order Canelo-Ortiz and they get in the ring and fight at the same time as chavez-martinez, and Al Bernstein or Gus all the sudden during the main event say: "I have just received word that Chavez jr. just got floored and is not getting up" 0o'

Seems like HBO didnt offer a fair amount for Canelo vs Ortiz. Schaefer seems bitter with HBO at the moment.

If HBO goes along with Chavez vs Martinez on the same date you can pretty much expect Canelo to be a Showtime fighter from know (it seems from what Schaefer said).

I expect Chavez Martinez to move the date if anything.

All this can change with a Ortiz vs Lopez upset, injuries, etc.
