Looking underneath the bantering, it looks as though either HBO is no longer favoring GBP when it comes to fight dates, or they feel that Canelo vs Ortiz is not PPV worthy.

If GBP and Schaefer truly had the date and PPV reserved than why the hell is it on Showtime? Wonder what the possible beef with HBO could be, but, it seems that GBP has been monopolizing on Showtime ever since their former lawyer took head office.

Its all about leverage ..... Chavez vs Martinez carries much more weight than Canelo vs Ortiz.

In the end, if they can't work something out the fans get screwed.

how so? do you not know how the business works?... gbp made a deal with showtime, end of story..

could care less about arum or top ranks plans, would never buy their cards... im more amp for canelo/ortiz .... by the way arum, why not just build that stadium??.. you old fart

and by the way , shaefer is dead right... arum is a old miserable man who really could give two ****s about boxing, he talks about boxing losing confidence... on pti they said him and Don King have killed boxing

also, did anyone take notice of how arum ****ted on mgm... not sure if people notice but arum is very sneaky about how he draggs people into fights like they are on his side.. " ohh i got the wynn guys on my side".. " hbo is with us".. this guy is full of ****, i guess it works for some of you guys on here

I'll have to side with Bob Arum on this one.

I love GBP and their fighters, undercards, and their matchups. They're not afraid of matching their young fighters with the best. And putting their best fighters against each other. Did I mention their superior undercards in PPV events?

But Arum is right on this one. Though I was going to say Arum is 100% right, but i'll give Schafer at least 30% here. So it's 70-30 in favor of Arum. Why put the fight in the same city? That's true. Another thing is, that Schafer is right, when he announced Canelo-Ortiz for Sept 15th PPV,there was no fight scheduled for that date. Just like Richard admitted that Arum did talk about that date before, Arum also let something slip, "We announced the fight on Saturday night after the fight". Which shows that there was no official date set for that date. That's why I give Richard 30% of the debate. But Arum won.

That would be extremely weird if they don't see Canelo-Ortiz as PPV worthy.

                1. First of all, Ortiz has participated in a HBO PPV main event and did $1.3Mill. Thanks to Mayweather of course, but he participated in it nonetheless.

                2. Canelo has been a couple of big PPV undercards for Mayweather, and has had a lot of exposure because of it.

                3. Nobody outside of Mexicans and hardcore fans know who JCC Jr or Sergio Martinez are. Canelo vs Ortiz is a fight that my causal boxing buddies are actually talking about, thanks to their exposure from Mayweather. Nobody has ever seen Martinez, 10 people bought the Latin Fury PPV's that Chavez Jr was in. 2million HBO viewers does not translate to a million or even 400-500k PPV buys.

I predict that Ortiz-Canelo will get around 300-500k, and Chavez-Martinez will get around 100-300k. The least Ortiz-Canelo can do, is the most Chavez-Martinez can do.

Still think Arum is just making a big stink to flex nuts, I don't think Martinez is ever fighting Chavez jr.
I agree, Arum will wait it out for another month and then an announcement will come out of the blue and Chavez will move up to 168

                    Schaefer is wrong!

Two facts stand out in this argument. 1) Top Rank reserved the date ahead of GBP. Shaefer does not deny this. His only excuse is, "he didn't know". Either he's lying or he's incompetent. Either way, that's his problem and not Arum's. 2) Ortiz has a fight that's coming up. How can GBP announce Ortiz's next fight when the upcoming fight hasn't even been completed yet? Are they saying that Ortiz is fighting a bum? If not, is the fight fixed then? Both promoters are capable of BS but in this argument, Schaefer is plainly wrong.

HBO knows JCC JR > Canela vs. Victoria.
