where do you think Ortiz has been fighting at?

for all the crap talked about Top Rank, Golden Boy sure has done a number on some. The perception that Ortiz is a draw, by a lot, over Martinez simply isn't backed by any numbers

Also Martinez has been getting 1mil+ for like his last 4-5 fights in a row.

Besides Floyd, Ortiz havent been making over 1 mil a fight.

Money does not equal drawing power

case in point Andre Berto who is probably the highest paid lowest drawing athlete in sports right now

"a day/night doubleheader on Saturday as Plan B."

uh... this isn't baseball, no way that's a realistic option for the fights .. both want to happen at night, maybe not the same time, but no way they happen at night

**if Alvarez/Ortiz & Martinez-Chavez Jr. still both happen Sept 15th, I'm curious to see which promoter tries to get access to the movie theaters

as that could make a big difference when it comes to PPV buys

how did you come to this conclusion considering recently the only times he's drawn well is when he was the B-side to an event?

also prior to him being in the Main Event for Berto Ortiz the last time he was in a Main Event was....against Maidana

so how did you come to the conclusion that Ortiz is a bigger draw, by miles, than Martinez?
I don't think there was an official number for Martinez-Dzizniruk in the Foxwoods Resort, but the estimates I remember hearing was around 3,500. Berto-Ortiz in the same place did 2,000. Don't know how many comps there were through.

But to be fair to, Berto Ortiz II sold a lot of tickets early on in the staples center, didn't it? (Was there a refund?) Heard it did bad when it was originally in Vegas though.

I know people behind the scenes at AEG and while it was doing okay it wasn't doing what GBP expected

about 4000 paid is what I was told at the time of rescheduling

I wasn't saying Ortiz is a big draw, but he seems to be the guy people are coming to see, except of course floyd. Sergio seems to go where the other guy is the draw, NY for Macklin (irish community), Pavlik in AC. Ortiz headlines at staples and mandalay bay (petersen) which are larger venues.

chavez-martinez is definitely more interesting than alvarez-ortiz.

I think it more to do with DiBella being Martinez' promoter than having to fight in other people's demo

Ortiz has only headlined one big event, Maidana at Staples. Since then he has not been a stand alone big draw. The Peterson fight he was the undercard fight to Khan Maidana.

the one time he was a headliner in a big fight since Maidana was Berto and that drew ~2500

As Arum says DiBella never got off his ass and never stopped waiting for HBO to build Sergio up.

Being in against Floyd shot Victor Ortiz' recognition factor through the roof. I bet that if you ask the casual fan on the street more of them know who he is than know who Sergio is.

                      Sad but true.
