To be honest I personally think that's what did for him. McClellan reacted badly to a Benn punch quite early on in the fight, it wasn't a huge shot at all. I think he was still suffering the after-effects of his previous fight with one of the hardest punchers of all time.

Tragic story. I don't judge him for the dog-fighting, he who is without sin...

It could be that Weebler, but then again Benn could really **** too, and he was a full size super-middle.

We will never really know what triggered it, terrible accident, damage from a prior fight, just a punch in the wrong spot?

I saw the fight on Showtime when it happened back in '95. It was a bizarre ending to a great fight. On a another Showtime boxing card the commentators said he was out of the coma, and doing fine, but he would never fight again. I didn't find out until about a year ago that was blind and deaf from the fight. I recently watched this video on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGz-unNi1dU about how he was doing. It's one of the saddest things I've ever seen.

That video is quite old. In one of the most recent documentaries already said; The Fight of their Lives*, McLellan does look alittle better.

He was, Steve Bunce saw him in hospital, he was talking and feeling ok.

Then they dragged him on a plane to the us even though the neurosurgeon said not to leave the hospital, let alone fly, and the flight ****ed him.

Bunce has got no reason to lie about this, and what he is saying makes sense

one of the hardest punchers ever with either hand. just a dangerous dude.

few can say that they hit on an elite level with either hand. very few.

g man's right hand up top and left hand to the body is one of the most devastating combinations i've ever seen

how the hell do you defend that? he had great hand speed for a true puncher and could land the right hand from way the hell away.

he claimed to get periodic headaches from time to time after his fights with julian jackson.


certainly his career as pro boxer and his tenure in the amateurs and as a legendary fighter coming out of the kronk gym contributed to and compounded his head injuries.


the brain of a pro boxer, who spars for hundreds of rounds for each fight and fights many more than a hundred rounds as a pro, is nothing like the brain of somebody who does not.


high contact fights damage your brain
if you walk out of the ring or not, your brain is taking serious damage if you're in a hard fight.
