Then again if he was already having headaches after the Julian Jackson fight then perhaps brain damage was going to be his fate down the line anyway. None of us can really say.
Remember you get 20 seconds if you fall out of the ring, Benn was on his feet after 7.

I think it was easier for Benn to throw rabbit punches as the smaller man. McClellan did throw rabbit punches in other bouts however. Referees are much more strict on it these days. Anyway, my opinion is that McClellan wasn't "right" going into this one. If it's true that the flight exacerbated his injuries then that's a damn shame.

He was just a dog-murdering bully that simply didn't have the heart of the British lion.

He blinded defenceless animals and now he is blind himself. Sorry, but it's poetic justice.

the thing that stands out in my mind is how don king changed the contract of gerald from 700k to 300k. he sent one of his goons into geralds hotel room and swapped out the contract. at a time when he needed every penny. it should not be over looked that the english fans have shown a considerable amount of support even to this day.mad props to them for their many acts of kindness to a fallen warrior.

That's why I said stricter rules ought to be imposed on rabbit punches. Did you not read my post properly?

The McClellan vs Benn fight, more than anything other in boxing, haunts me and saddens me. Probably cos I was about 10 years old and watching it live when it happened, and can still remember how I felt when Gerald was laid out on the canvas. This was after I had spent the whole fight wishing Benn kick his ass.

I watched the first minute of the recent documentary before I checked out. But I'm gonna watch it now, because I feel as a boxing fan, I have a duty to watch it, even if it's gonna choke me up and make me feel dreadfully sad. We have to confront the effects of this sport we so love.

So by the same token, you're suggesting I have to show compassion for every murderer, rapist or pedophile, should something unfortunate befall them?
