Comments Thread For: Vicente Escobedo Guarantees Upset Over Adrien Broner

By Jake Donovan - It hasn’t been an easy transition to the pro ranks for Vicente Escobedo. High expectations came with his turning pro shortly after his stint on the 2004 U.S. Olympic boxing squad, but success has only come in small doses thus far.

Escobedo has a chance to change all of that on July 21. Granted, a tall order awaits him as he’s set to challenge unbeaten 130 lb. titlist Adrien Broner. Not only is Escobedo facing one of the best young fighters in the sport today, but has to go to his Cincinnati backyard as they headline an HBO-televised card at the U.S. Bank Arena. If Escobedo had a better chin, he could give Broner some problems.

Katsidis and Robert Guerrero are big lightweights that hit a lot harder than Broner does and Escobedo went to war with both of those guys trading punches till the final bell. I think Escobedo outworks Broner July 21. UD

Can't wait to hear how Escobedo is a bum after July 21st. Anyways, this is a solid/good stay busy fight against a decent opponent.

The thing is I see him getting dropped once or twice so I can't pick him to win that fight even if he deserves to.

I forgot this fight's in Cincinatti that sux for Escobedo. Broner said in an interview that he was suppose to move up to lightweight before this fight got finalized and that his next fight after this will definetely be at 135. Broner looked about 160 lb's at the press conference I think hes gonna struggle to get to 130 in 5 weeks, he might lose the title on the scales.

Escobedo is good, he's got the fundamentals, but he's not going to win a decision in Cincinnati.
