Hopkins' fans: how does it feel to see your old man done?

I was just curious as to what kind of response this would get seeing as so many people stubbornly insist Hopkins is still middleweight champ. Does it hurt that bad inside that you can't admit it was time to pass the torch? What drew you to Hopkins in the first place? This man was a thug and a dirty fighter. He ducked Roy Jones for years (Roy was the one who offered a 60-40 split). Why are you so sad to see him lose to a better man? Does it make you sad that he will never fight again other than his bogus "goodbye fight" next year? Farewell, Hopkins. Get lost.

For the record, I was a huge Hopkins fan for years. I cheered him over Trinidad and De La Hoya, but the man was an ******* and a dirty fighter. He was more worried about his pointless 20 defenses than fighting the best competition. He should have fought Roy a long time ago. I knew Taylor was the real deal and that he would beat Hopkins, and even though I picked Taylor to win both fights, I wasn't cheering AGAINST Hopkins until the rematch when you, his crybaby fans, turned me against the old man. If there's any Hopkins fan out there willing to admit he lost both fights, good karma coming your way because you are a rare breed indeed.

NO........first fight 115-113 Hopkins but a draw would have been fair....second fight easily could have been a draw also but can respect the 115-113 for Taylor more so than in the first fight.

Good post Diego, the guy's a fraud and a hoaxer. Just runs around like a twat (NOT the "sweet science" despite his supporters claiming otherwise... this ain't Muhammad Ali here) and uses the head all the time. A total joker.

His last fights have been a pile of crap. He ran from Eastman, got a "career defining" win over Oscar (a guy who lost his first fight at middle but was given a gift, and who nobody gave a hope in Hell of winning the night beforehand) and did basically **** all in the Taylor fights. Taylor didn't win them for me, Hopkins gave them away. You can't pose like a twat then compare yourself to Sugar Ray.

Honestly, it hurts. I stopped the video when the decision was announced. I knew he lost again. Hurts. Hopkins didn't do enough and Taylor did just enough. Both were in that "don't get caught" mode and it did make a boring fight. This was not the Hagler/Leonard calibre where two guys went out to prove who was The Man.

I don't see how someone wouldn't be able to see that he lost both fights. Hopkins was my favorite fighter but in my eyes there was no argument in who won either fight. In the first fight, I didn't see him trying to fight serious until the 10th round, until then he was mostly inactive. It was pretty much the same in the second fight. Except in the second fight he allowed the his opponents' jab to be more effective. In the first fight he kept moving so the jab wouldn't be much of a problem, didn't do that in the second fight.

Hopkins wanted to wear Taylor down for the late rounds again, but he didn't even go to the body throughout the fight. Didn't throw his own jab, and was completely dependent on his lead right hand to win the fight, even when it was obvious that every time he threw that punch Taylor would grab on because Hopkins lunged in too much when he threw it. I was and still am very dissapointed with Hopkins, it was like he forgot alot of his fundamentals in both fights.

True, Taylor didn't look impressive in them, but has anyone EVER looked impressive against Hopkins? I've seen the Roy fight, and even though Lederman gave damn near every round to Jones, that was not an easy fight for Roy, who didn't make solid contact on Hopkins much all night. Neither did Taylor, but he who controls a fight like that wins the fight. I knew Taylor would win those fights because Oscar was hanging in there with Hopkins for four rounds and because Eastman was winning the early 1/3 of their fight. Hopkins was old and slow, and Taylor won those fights because he was the opposite.
