Gamboa wanted Rios and he was given Rios. Yuri was offered more money than anyone with his record and fan-base could reasonably expect. A lot of garbage has been written about Gamboa after the "Bam Bam" fiasco, but these are facts. Yuri is a potential superstar and Bob Arum knows it. That's why he gave in to Gamboa's demands with Brandon and why he's bending over backwards now to mend fences with "El Ciclon."
I think Cuban fighters are given greater opportunities and exposure than many other boxers. Solis, for example, was granted a heavyweight title shot with only eighteen pro fights. If Cubans are held back from big fights, it's because they're lacking in some way: experience, fan-base, appeal, excitement, whatever. Give it a little more time, our guys will eventually take their rightful place among boxing's elite.

Todays fight fans demand more excitement than ever.
If you have an electrifying fighter who brings constant action and knocks everyone out (a la vintage Mike Tyson), no one will care where he's from. He'll gain fans from all walks of life. For this reason I've always thought Yuriorkis Gamboa, out of all current Cuban fighters, has the best chance of becoming a superstar.

I've met rigondeaux twice now in Hialeah when visiting family. Its funny though because in his interviews he always says he's a true southpaw. That's not true though.
