**Tell you what kid, why don't you check out a couple of boxing gyms in your area and ask if they'll let you work on their heavy bags. You can check out how you like the different sizes and get some tips on your gloves and hands, and can make an informed choice.

Why do you suggest an MMA type glove? If the kid wants to box then go with the boxing style.

If the kid just wants to hit the bag around it really doesn't matter what he's using. :-P
