Johnston would have beaten Marquez.....Marquez excels when his opponent is the aggressor, but has close fights or struggles against good boxers. Loses to Mayweather and Chris John prove that. Marquez didnt fight Many slick southpaws and Stevie Johnston was of the best of the last 15 years. I think he won both fights against Castillo but he was tough, pretty quick, good chin, defense, and counterpunching..

I just dont think Marquez will be bale to beat a bigger stronge slicker guy....who is also a southpaw and had a great chin in his prime.

Man Stevie Johnston was a beast in his prime. I remember when he fought Jose Luis Castillo. Those were battles and Johnston gave more than he received. IMO Marquez would beat him by split decision, in a very close fight.

Naw was a close fight....but stylistically is why I brought up Chris John. Marquez wins convincingly over front foot heavy fighters, not boxers

I had Castillo clearly winning the rematch against Johnston, but Castillo heavily struggled against southpaws so that isn't a good baramator as to how well Johnston does against Marquez. Manfredy also gave Johnston serious serious problems, Marquez definitely wins this fight in my opinion. Johnston wasn't that big either, he was very strong physically considering his frame, he managed to push Castillo around A LOT, but he wasn't big at all.

Oh yeah I know what you mean. I really don't think he KOs Johnston but I think he does beat him. Casamayor was an excellent southpaw counter-puncher and had never been KOd but a series of well connected punches were enough to knock him out. Plus, Beristain knows his southpaws I don't think being left handed is an advantage when fighting Marquez. I say Marquez gets the W by decision.
